How early would you feel ok to induce if you have gest diabetes? My doctor does not want to go far post due date, she wants to either induce 2 days prior EDD or 1 day after ( diffference is due to weekend). She does not seem to be too firm though. If I press hard enough to go 41 weeks, they probably would not mind (baby is measruing 54% at 36.5 weeks). I really want to have natural birth, but at the same time I do not want to have placental issues and really want baby be here in my hands, not in my belly. |
I have gestational diabetes also and am 35 weeks today - my OB told me at my last appointment that they would let me go a week past my due date, although they probably would not let me go to 42 weeks. Are you taking insulin? So far I have been able to avoid it - if I were taking it, it sounded like they would be more inclined to induce closer to my due date. |
I also had GD during my pregnancy. My OB did not want to go past EDD and I ended up being induced at 39 weeks and 2 days. U/s are notoriously unreliable: my DD was measuring on the large side throughtout the pregnancy, but was 6lb 14oz at birth. |
I'm in a similar situation -- I wanted to have a natural birth but will have to be induced (but for a different reason). I know of people who have had no pain medications or any other interventions, besides the pitocin for the induction, and that's what I'm hoping for. I know it will be more difficult because of the induction/pitocin, but I think we can do it! Good luck! |
Op here
I am not taking insulin and since I started taking my blood into the home monitor in the mornign and then after each meal, I did nto even have to go on diet to keep them weel below the cut offs. I.e. I am thinking that probably my body did nto tolerate THAT much glucose with the tests (the numbers were just a little bit higher then cut offs, and only in 2 out of 4 numbers). However my sugars seem to be ok with the way I have always eaten, sugars are normal. I was given 2 days to choose, either one day past 40 weeks, or 3 days prior 40 weeks. My first choice was 1 day after 40 weeks, just to know that I went to full-full term ![]() |
You may want to ask your ob/gyn what the risks/benefits are to waiting. Your placenta's function and ability to provide nutrients to the baby begins to break down toward the end, I think that GD may speed up this process. GD increases the chance to develop late onset PE, which is also dangerous. GD also increases chances of stillbirth. It may not just be an issue of baby size and ultrasound perdictions. |
I chose to be induced at exactly 39 weeks because I was scared to death of having a c-section (and my OB said that was prevalent among those with GD). My DD was born 4.5 hours after they started the pitocin, weighing 8 lbs, 3 oz. |
