My husband and I are considering taking a final roadtrip to see a Bruce Springsteen concert during my 30th week of pregnancy.
I'm quite paranoid about the effect of the loud music on the baby's ears. We've mentioned this to a doctor, who had no concerns. Also, the written sources we've seen tend to say that extended loud noise could be damaging for the baby, but that a brief rock concert would probably not be a problem. Still, as a first-time parent, I remain worried. So are there any of you out there who saw concerts when you were 6-7 months pregnant? If so, and your baby's hearing showed no signs of damage later on, please let me know. I think your examples would go a long way towards helping me relax and feel like a good parent, even while indulging our Springsteen obsession. |
I would not be worried. Try listening to the concert imersed in a pool, not so loud. I sometimes jam out in the car or at home with the music at defeaning levels also we had MAJOR construction done at our house when prenganat and sometimes the sawing, jackhammering, nailing, and drilling make my ears ring. |
I played bass in a rock band with baby #1, up until I was about 33 weeks pregnant. That meant practicing weekly in a small space and playing gigs (once or twice a month at least) a lot closer to the amps than the average audience member would we. Doc said it was fine, and baby (now 2 1/2 years old) has shown no signs of hearing issues, but a real love of music ![]() |
I remember going to see a movie when I was 7 months pregnant. A couple of times there were sudden loud noises from the screen and my baby "jumped" each time. It was quite funny. |
We went to a concert at Wolf Trap - I was probably 6-7 months pregnant.... it was very LOUD to me and he did seem active -- but he loves music and loves to dance now so perhaps he was just enjoying the rhythm! No issues with hearing -- he's been tested sevearl times due to fluid issues (he now has tubes) but that has no correlation to hearing loud music while pregnant! |
I went to the 9:30 club 8 months pregnant, twice! No harm at all; the baby is extremely well insulated in there. |
My husband and I went to see the White Stripes when I was about as far along as you are now. Funny, I didn't think there were any moms as paranoid as me! I was worried about the same thing. I have to admit that I made us leave early because I got really freaked out by the thumping bass during one of the final songs in their set. I remember covering my belly with my hands! Well, I am happy to say that our DD is now 5 months and did not suffer any consequences. Have a great time! This is the last concert you will go to for a while . . . ![]() |
As they say, it's better to be safe than sorry...so if you don't need that ticket, can I have it? (-;
Enjoy, and rock on! P.S. My guitar-playing husband wants to start playing AC/DC "lullabies" to my womb to increase the chances we will have a baby who can rock out with him (-: |
I've been to a concert three days after my due date and I guess baby enjoyed it as much as I did! I am sure that they will feel or hear something but I can't imagine it being harmful to be honest. Musice never harmed anyone has it. Besides, it is still safe in the womb so that would protect it from a lot of the sound/noise! Enjoy it!! It will probably be a while before you can go to another concert anytime soon ![]() |
