What are your thoughts on this club now that the merge is done? My thinking is inferior to McLean but possibly better than Vienna. Definitely smaller than Vienna, I think they only have 3 teams for even the younger age groups. Anyone have experience with the club?

What do you mean by "inferior" and "better"? Are you talking about winning and losing games? Well that will depend on each age group and team. Are you talking about individual player development?

Parent need to get away from the name of the club when deciding what's best for their child and look at that specific team that your child will be on. You need to consider the coach. The teammates. The parents. The league. The training. There will be times where I bet PAC will be better for your kid than Bethesda for example; however, that may not fit your and your child's ego or your commute. So if you want to know which one is best for my son, I can give you my opinion on that, but I doubt you care. On the flip side, I can't answer which would be best for your son/daughter.

I saw the gf girls coaches for the u9 and u10 age groups a few times in the past year and I would not recommend them based on the way they yelled at the girls. Some of the comments were awful and I would not want my 8 year old spoken to that way.

Agree 100% about yelling by GF U9 girls coaches. We played against multiple GF U9 teams and the yelling (or more accurately screaming) was consistent across the board. I would not want my daughter to play for those coaches.

There was a female coach at GF named Dudley Hawkins I believe. She coached the girls 06 team. She was a screamer and basically a bully. She was relieved of her duties. Not sure where she is now.

If they were born in 06 they would not be U9 or U10. I saw a male coach and he was awful to his team.

Great Falls teams have always been on the weaker side. We played against their U9 girls and the coach was a massive screamer but nothing productive.

what age group? If you are looking for DD or DS to play competitively I would look elsewhere. If you just want to have fun and do the travel experience, Great falls is a good club for that.

I think their affiliation with WS and a sort of "pre-DA" program may be a sign of good things to come.

Those coaches that you are referring to are now gone for GFRSC and have been replaced.

One of the best things about GFRSC is that there is something for everyone-from recreational to high level (NPL). Their technical director Rado Pletka is excellent and the focus is on individual development, love for the game, and then transitions into more tactical as they get older. Depends what you want and if your child is able to get to that....not as "high level" as ECNL/Mclean YET but your kids can do other things (sports, music, extracurricular) which is much more difficult at that higher level. Larger than Vienna. Leadership is great in setting the tone for personal development, coaches positive and mentoring.

Mclean's level has been steadily declining for their boys teams. Yes, their 2001 team is a high level team and their 2006 team got decent results, but the vast majority of their boys teams are mediocre. For example, their top 2003 team finished 13th in CCL with 1 win, 9 losses and 4 ties. Their 2004 team finished in the 12th place with 4 wins, 9 losses and 1 tie. http://www.clubchampionsleague.com/standings/ They will move their top teams to ECNL this year, but simply moving to another league does not make players better.
