Stroller Suggestions

We are totally confused about strollers. We are due in the next 5 weeks. We live in an area where there are no sidewalks and would like to walk with the stroller at least a mile if not more. Our mothers both think that the bassinet feature is important even if we go with a regular stroller. I really don't want to spend $800 on a package that includes this. My husband is also 6ft, so he would like something that is easy for his reach.

Has anyone found the bassinet feature worthwhile?
Has anyone had any experience with the UPPA Baby?
What about the Zooper Zydeco?
What about the Bumbleride Indie?
What about the Mountain Buggy?
What about the Mutsy?

I have seen some great European ones, anyone have an idea of where to purchase those brands to deliver here?

One of my friend's has the UPPA baby and loves it. However, it is really big (she calls it her SUV) and it takes up almost all of her trunk space. I am also intereested in finding out about the Mutsy and the Quinny, if anyone has any experience with either of those.

We have a stroller with a bassinet (Bugaboo) & we never used it. Instead, we used the mechanism that allows you to hook the car seat directly on the stroller. My brother & sis-in-law live in an area without sidewalks & they have loved the BOB revolution. They do a lot of walking. This is a jogging stroller (but easily maneuvers in stores) that also has a way to attach the car seat directly on the stroller while the baby is still small. I tried their stroller out & liked it more than ours. It's very smooth & easy to push. My brother is 6-1 & the handle height is good for him. Good luck.

We have the Mutsy and love it! We don't use the car alot and loved that we could take DD at a few weeks and be secure that she was comfortable and warm in the bassinet. The stroller seat is great and faces both ways. The only downside is that it's not very compact and takes up a lot of room in the trunk, but still much smaller than the UPPABABY.

I don't know anyone who used their bassinet. When they are infants, it's so much easier to use your infant seat and snap that into the stroller. So I would look for a stroller that allowed you to use the infant seat.

i just got the bugaboo because i wanted the bassinet feature...but truthfully, im sure we wont use it much. i heard that the Mutsy is very wide and heavy and is very unmanageable in stores....
the Bob seems to be a popular choice, but i dont think it allows you to snap the carseat into it...but maybe starting at 4-5 months, the Bob would work and you could use a snap & go for the carseat during the early months...

We just purchased the Quinny Buzz and opted not to get the bassinet. Instead we bought the compatible infant car seat. Haven't used it yet but it was about $500

I'm also expecting and have tried *every* stroller I could find. I've decided to go with the Quinny Buzz. The Mutsy was huge & impossible to manuever, even on the even floors of the store. I tried to turn it with one hand and it just wouldn't go. The UPPA Baby didn't seem as sturdy to me. And everything I tried I found harder to fold and unfold than the Buzz. I haven't seen or don't remember the other two you mention. Plus the Buzz has an easily adjustable handlebar that goes pretty high. I was wearing heels in the store so I was almost 6 foot and had no problem getting it to a comfortable height. As far as the bassinet, one store told me it was a must. At another store the rep was a bit more honest and said that I would only use it for the first 4-5 months really so that it only made sense to make the investment if I was going to use the stroller all the time in the beginning. I am leaning against using the bassinet and going with a sling initially b/c those few months will be when the baby is small enough to wear most comfortably. When buying a car seat though I may get the compatible one so that if I change my mind about stroller use, I still won't need to buy the bassinet.

As far as where to see these strollers in DC, I can't say. I checked them all out while in NY and in Chicago and am planning to order mine online anyway from somewhere that has free shipping. Amazon has them all.

Good luck!

I've seen the Quinny at Buy Buy Baby and at Daisy Baby.

I got the bassinet with the Bugaboo and never used it. I would not recommend focusing on that feature.

I am a huge fan of the BOB Revolution. You can buy an infant bar to make it car seat compatible, but I didn't happen to get mine until DD was one. A close friend used hers from the very beginning (with the infant bar) and loved it.

I'm actually about to buy the BOB Revolution Dualie so I can pop both my toddler and newborn in it.

you can just get one of the inexpensive ones that attaches to the car seat for the first few months and then figure out what you need. they are incredibly convenient...light, easy to fold, great for travelling. i hated to get rid of mine but my son's legs were hanging over the side of the car seat. i got a maclaren after that and have been very happy. i hear these work well for tall parents too.

problem with the bassinets that come with stroller is taking the baby in and out, if you just use an attachment for car seat it is so much easier, and I think they sleep better in the car seat. This is just my opinion. I had the bugaboo, never ever used the bassinet, reallly did not need to with this stroller b/c it can go flat, I do not recommend this stroller, way over priced and hard to fold. You have to take the damn thing apart. I have the bob revolution, love love love it. I have heard great things about the quinny buzz too. I would go to buy buy baby and check them all out. good luck and congrats.

I thought I would love the UppaBaby and in fact, I hated it when i visited it at great Beginnings. It is huge!

I think the Bugaboo is the best choice, truly, and I have had about 6 strollers in the 6 years I have had kids and I wish I had just splurged on a Bugaboo!

Ignore the bassinet feature. I bought my stroller based on what would work with my infant carseat, which was a rookie mistake. In those early days, you can either carry your baby in a sling/wrap/bjorn or stick your infant carseat in a snap-and-go. Buy a stroller that will work better for you in the long haul. (Turning ease? sturdiness? lightness? carrying compartments? cupholders? fit in trunk? height? etc.)
