Does your 6-8 year old athletic boy wear tank tops?

I've got a super-athletic 7 year old (finishing first grade). He's already saying he only likes wearing Nike, Under Armour, etc Obviously not always indulged, but for upcoming summer activities / sports camps etc I need to get him some new stuff. Do your boys that age wear tanks (from athletic brands, not the white undershirt type?) They're shown everywhere and I guess they'll keep him cooler, but I feel like they both look a little silly (he's tiny for his age also) and aren't great for sun protection...

Mine don’t and I don’t see boys wearing these in general.

I have an athletic 6 year old who thinks he needs to wear as few clothes as possible and loves his muscle shirts as he calls them.

But I'd never waste money on Nike or Under Armour stuff - when my kid has a job he can waste his money on branded junk.

In the meantime you can get perfectly good tank tops at Target.

Tank tops on boys are for the poors.

I just don't see kids wearing them. Kids wear t-shirts. They also provide that little extra protection from the sun. Sunscreen doesn't last all day.

Wait what? Is this why we didn't get into any privates again?

I have one DS who likes to wear them to run in but definitely doesn’t want to be seen by anyone he knows. Older DS wouldn’t go near a tank top until he was about 13. At that point, he seemed to think his arms had enough muscle mass to show off. Before then, he was self-conscious that his arms were too skinny.

Wait you had a pre-pubescent teen who was self conscious about how muscular he was and wouldn't wear tank tops? I hope you've budgeted some money for therapy because that is nuts.

A friend has a boy, slightly older than my DS, who only wanted to wear sleeveless at that age. He definitely stood out for it, but it was what he wanted and was more comfortable for him.

Back before preferences, my small-is, slight DS wore mostly polo shirts, t-shirts, and cotton button down shirts. He was adorable.

He's 9 now and for the past year pretty much only wears athletic shirts. They tend to have a slightly raised hem on the neck and slightly longer sleeves so I think give decent enough sun protection.

My 6 year old loves the really smooth moisture wicking t-shirts, especially if he's going to do something athletic. They keep him cool. He hasn't expressed any interest in tank tops.

I prefer the moisture wicking shirts with sleeves. Some of them even have SPF. Most camps don't re-apply sunscreen, so every little bit helps.

My boys like the athletic wear generally, but they will only wear the tshirts. DD wears tank tops, so maybe they think that the tanks are girls shirts? My boys never ask for them when we are shopping.

I just purchased some tank tops for my 5yo he didn't ask for them but its getting to be hot lately and he runs hot too. I see kids wearing branded ones at his soccer practice and wow they are expensive! I'm hoping to stay away from buying those for as long as possible.

he has a few and likes them.

Mine would live in athletic wear if they could, but never tanks, only tees.
