Our school sent home a form -- you fill it out if you kid will not be at school that day and list where they will be going (which workplace). I believe a lot of kids are out that day so its definitely acceptable.

Hmm? Take your kid to work day (previously take your daughter to work day) has been happening for decades.

I've worked at large STEM corporates that have excellent half day Take Child to Work days.
Kid only likes it for 2-4 year time frame so try it once or twice if it makes sense.
Otherwise don't sweat it.

Take your child to work day isn't a school-hosted event. It is an excused absence for your child, though.

Our ES has previously had kids fill out a form on what they did, who they observed, what skills were used, etc.

But, just so you know, how much your child "gets" from the day is what they'll be doing with you/your company program. It isn't a program hosted by the school.

If your company has a take your child to work day, why would you take the day off? Why wouldn't you go in and participate?

Some offices do not allow you to bring your child in while you are "working" but you can bring them in while taking leave to visit etc. I have brought my child in...introduced them around..showed them my desk etc..took them out for lunch.

Our teachers pressure the kids and their parents to skip school that day. It's obnoxious.

My kids love it. They get private school class sizes that day! Please take your kid to work!

Why isn’t this day held during summer break? Why do the kids have to miss school to participate?

Doesn't that defeat the purpose of take your child to work day? I attended meetings with my dad and accompanied him to client meetings. Helped take notes during conference calls. Etc.

My workplace doesn’t let kids help with the actual work. They have programs that show the kids some of what goes on, but they can’t participate in actual work. Though we do top secret work, so that’s really the reason. Can’t have kids handling highly classified information and computer systems.

My husband can never take our kids in. They don't allow kids even at the workplace for the day.

This is such an elitist and outdated "practice."

PP here. Where does your husband work? I’m at CIA and they have a program for the kids.
