Anyone color hair during pregnancy?

Anonymous
Hello has anyone colored their hair during pregnancy? or asked your ob if it is okay?

yes yes yes, a lot of us have. but a lot of women don't. most doctors will say it's fine, or to just wait until after the first trimester. it comes down to doing what makes your comfortable.
search the archives, lots of old and recent posts on this.

My OB said it was fine. I colored mine in the first trimester. If it were really dangerous, pregnant women would not be able to work in salons!

I plan on it--my 1st tri is over in 3 weeks and then I'm making my appointment! I know tons of women who did as well.

I did with my three kids, but after the 1st trimester.

I highlighted after the first trimester, which I guess is slightly different because the dye never actually touches the scalp. I didn't even ask my OB, just read that it was fine in my Mayo Clinic book.

My doc and hair salon said it was fine. I just make sure they don't do the "glaze" thing when they wash my hair. It reeks of amonia and chemicals and I don't feel comfortable breathing it in so I skip it. I did it once in my first trimester because I forgot, and I just started my second and had it colored again. Tell your hairdresser just in case, so they don't add anything to the color or do anything extra like the glaze.

I got highlights in first tri (it was right before my wedding) and doc said it was fine. I did sit next to an open window to avoid fumes and she was careful not to put it on the scalp...

Yes, I started coloring it for the first time during this pregnancy. No hesitations and my doc said it was fine.

Yes, 1st - 3rd trimesters.

Yes. My OB said it was no problem.

My OB recommended waiting until 2nd trimester, so I did. Had highlights, which as someone else said is less of an issue since it doesn't touch the scalp. I told the colorist and the only thing she did differently was not have me sit under the dryer to avoid fumes. HTH

my husband didn't feel comfortable with me doing it despite reading that it was ok. i am can't to dye my hair soon after the baby is born! only a few more weeks to go. my hair soooo needs to be refreshed.

I'm in the same situation. Is there some type of natural/organic dye that's not as toxic? Is there a salon that provides such service. I'm don't mind that it won't last as long but I'm invited to a wedding in, and boy would I like to dye my hair. It looks horrible.

Yes, I highlight. My ob said to pick a couple times during pregnancy (after the 1st trimester) that it would make me feel 'better.' I must say it is easier to highlight during pregnancy than after! I am in my second trimester with #2 now, but still so sick that I don't think I can stand the smell of a salon. My hair is so long & roots so bad that I can't wait to get back there!
