Spanish Immersion camp/class for teens?

Anonymous
My dd has taken a few years of Spanish in middle/high school, and we are looking for an immersion experience to increase speaking/listening fluency (either day camp type thing in DC area or sleepaway within the US). Any suggestions?

I learned about Concordia language "villages" from this forum and they really look amazing. I'm considering sending my DD to one of these camps - they offer a whole lot of different languages and it's not just language immersion but cultural immersion too.

There are lots of overnight spanish immersion camps out there.

For day camps around here I didn't find many last summer when we looked but I believe DC International School has day camps.

Reviving this old thread to see if anyone has experience with Concordia?

If you live in Virginia, the governor's school summer language academy might be an option. The student has to be nominated within their high school and apply. It is a true immersion experience.

My kids and I all did Concordia virtual Spanish camp during COVID and I was super impressed with them. The instructors are great (the year we did it it seemed to be lots of 20-somethings from Mexico and Argentina). When we did it, all three of us had very little prior Spanish. I imagine doing it in person, with a better grounding in the language, would be more
effective - but I’d endorse it without reservations.

Not quite what you’re asking about - but my kids have had good experiences with both the JHU/CTY Spanish classes and Amigos de las Americas. Both produced a much higher level of comfort and fluency than MCPS classes have been able to.

I just signed my teen DD up to go for the first time this summer. We have a friend who has sent her kids for another language a couple of summers in a row. I would love to hear anyone else's experiences!
