My DD is turning 12 soon and would I'm looking for ideas to celebrate her birthday. We're undergoing construction at the house, so it needs to be something not in our home. She (and her friends) are sweet, arty, bookish and into theater (aka - not sporty). Any ideas for a small party of around 6 girls? Would Escape Room be good for that age? A private karaoke room? Please help!

Escape room should he great for that age!
Movie theaters will often have group/party deals. Even better, look for an art studio/paint & wine type place and let them all create something. |
Fancy Cakes by Leslie in Bethesda does cupcake, cake pops and cake decorating parties. When my daughter turned 12 we had a party there and it was a blast, and all the girls went home with treats! |
If you can swing the cost, take them to see a live performance.
One of my childhood friends took a few of us to a play at a famous theater downtown for her birthday around that age and I always remember that. |
NP, but do you remember how much that cost? I have a group of girls that would like to do something similar in Bethesda. |
$295 for a cake pop party at Baked by Yael opposite the zoo; less during the week. My daughter and her friend took a class there and had a great time. |
WIth only 6 girls, you could even do something like a scavenger hunt. I saw a group of girls that age doing one at the mall, but you could also do one at one of the museums downtown or something like that. Then combine it with lunch or dessert out, and they'll think that's really cool.
We did a scavenger hunt at a Smithsonian through a group that does that for a fee -- I don't think it would be cost effective for such a small group, but you could make up your own. |

The class I took was around $80 I think but call Leslie and tell her what you want to do. I can't imagine a party is $80 per kid. There people in my class were aged 9 to 65! Love Leslie's classes and would highly recommend. Two hours of fun and went home with a great cake and lots of new skills. |
Dinner at the Melting Pot. Ask one parent/friend to come with you (or bring DH). You and friend at a separate table next to the girls. |
Bump - my DD is turning 12 in Sept and we are also looking for some ideas. |
a couple of my daughter's friends did escape rooms, and they loved it, but they also enjoyed a trampoline park. And one girl's parents took them to a play in DC. Another did home-made scavenger hunts in downtown Bethesda. All were fun. I let my daughter choose (within my budget parameters, obviously.) |
