In 2015, Senator Schumer Criticized The Practice Of Tying Immigration Reform To A Funding Bill Saying Congress Should "Not Hold Hostage The Funding Of The Department Of Homeland Security That Keeps Us Safe Over An Unrelated Fight On Immigration." SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER (D-NY): "We would welcome a debate on immigration policies. Leader McConnell, he runs the Senate, He can start a debate on immigration on the floor, and in the -- on the floor of the Senate with the snap of his fingers. Let's vote on a clean bill. And then Senator McConnell, being the leader of the Senate, can put an immigration bill on the floor of the Senate. And we welcome that debate. We think we have the high ground on that debate. But we're not going to do it with a gun held to the head of the American people and say, you do this or we're going to shut down the government. Do not, we say to our Republican friends, do not hold hostage the funding of the Department of Homeland Security that keeps us safe over an unrelated fight on immigration." Yep. The hypocrisy of the Democrats is in full display. |
There was a chance to vote on a clean bill and your Supreme Leader f*cked it up and is either dumb or is deliberately trying to reneg after considering his base and/or the far right GOP. |
Except no clean bills have ever been offered. And even when the dems gave concessions like funding for the wall (that the Mexicans were supposed to pay for) and additional tax breaks, the GOP refused. So what choice was there? The GOP is not being an honest negotiation partner. The American public sides with the democrats on these issues and the American public doesn't want the government closed. That is why you are seeing polling that is killing the republicans on this. |
| The GOP has not been negotiating in good faith on this, Democrats have given some concessions and Trump doesn’t even seem to know what day it is much less what deals are on the table and have bipartisan support. |
Sure. The American public favors keeping the govt. open OVER dealing with DACA at this time. But, go on with your delusions. |
Never said or alleged I was superior to anyone here. The problem with the left is they always resort to the "victim card" and frankly it's getting old. |

How noble of you. And you are needy enough to boast about this on an anonymous forum? |
So now the WH is trying to go hard line, saying “no deal” unless DACA is off?

Fortunately, we can safely ignore everything that Sanders says. Apparently the only person that is actually important for a deal is Kelly. |
Any more on why McConnell refused? Mystery to me why he won’t bring anything to a vote. |
|
They want 15 Democrats to vote without giving them anything. Trump is such a master negotiator. SAD!

I think he doesn’t know what Trump wants, and therefore doesn’t know what he’ll sign, because Trump appears to keep changing his mind. It is also an ongoing challenge to whip the hard right Freedom caucus. |
