Are President Trump and John Kelly headed for a split?

Anonymous
Vanity Fair (I know, I know) is reporting that President Trump has become increasingly irritated by his Chief of Staff John Kelly, and in particular by the public perception that General Kelly is the man keeping order at the White House. The President allegedly said, referring to John Kelly, "I've for another nut job here who thinks he's running things." Things supposedly blew up most recently when Kelly publicly contradicted Trump's "uninformed" position on a border wall.

The President has supposedly began to ask too Republicans about a possible replacement for Kelly, with Washington lobbyist (what about the swamp?) David Urban mention as one possibility. Ivanka is allegedly assisting in this endeavor.

Read the Vanity Fair article for the full details, I have tried to summarize their story.

I think Kelly is the only thing keeping him safe from 25A.

Well, if Ivanka's going to find the replacement-I'm sure all our problems are over...

Ivanka is also playing a central role in the search, quietly field-testing ideas with people. “Ivanka is the most worried about it. She’s trying to figure who replaces Kelly,” a person who’s spoken with her said.

Kelly’s departure likely isn’t imminent, sources said. “He wants to stay longer than Reince [Priebus],” an outside adviser said. Trump can also hardly afford another high-level staff departure, which would trigger days of negative news cycles. “This could be like [Jeff] Sessions,” one of the Republicans explained, referring to Trump’s festering frustration about not being able to replace his attorney general.

But the prospect of a Trump-Kelly rupture became more probable as news of their clashes over immigration leaked. Last week, Kelly reportedly infuriated Trump when he told Fox News that Trump had “evolved” on his position to build a southern border wall. Kelly further catalyzed Trump’s ire when he told Democratic lawmakers that Trump was “uninformed” when he made his campaign promise to build the wall. The next morning Trump rebutted his chief of staff with a tweet: “The Wall is the Wall, it has never changed or evolved from the first day I conceived of it.”

Even if he leaves now, General Kelly will never be thought of the same way again. Everything President Trump touches turns to gold.

Fool's gold, you mean. You can't waller with the pigs and not get dirty.

Read Fire and Fury. Trump second-guessed Kelly as soon as he appointed him. He'll be gone before the end of 2018

I don't think Kelly wants to leave so quickly (it's only been a few months, although time is like dog years in Trump land).

Kelly is a racist. Pure and simple. He will fight to block any immigration reform (he has already, part of how we arrived at the last three days), and once that is accomplished, will likely leave. His mission accomplished.

This cabinet is never going to 25A this President. Have you heard the latest scoop on Wilbur Ross? Apparently he falls asleep in meetings, drools and uses his tie to wipe it up.

And apparently both Kelly and Nielsen were mocking Trump’s wall while they were at DHS.
“One other nugget in our story today: John Kelly and Kirstjen Nielsen both mocked the wall as silly at DHS, a harbinger of the chief of staff's comments last week that irked his boss.”

Well hey, it's not like Jared is busy. Give the man something to do. Or, you know, Ivanka could do it -- if you want the job done right, do it yourself, and all that.

I hope Kelly looks in the mirror and admits to himself that he's just like everyone else who thought they were so special that they could tame Trump. No one tames Trump. They just get sucked into his orbit and shat out in his wake. These people who accept jobs with him with the expectation of anything else are either idiots or delusional, no matter how smart or rational they may have been previously. Trump really is great ... at destroying things.

I would take this with a spoon of salt. All those tales of Sessions and Tillerson's political demise came to naught.
