Learning all about keto

This plan seems to have a lot of supporters. The idea of eating in a way where you are satisfied and feeling clear seems so interesting to me. I’d like to learn more. Any good and bad experiences with this lifestyle change?

Try reddit/keto. It’s very effective for short-term weight loss if you can do it correctly, but IMO it’s hard to sustain and the lost weight comes back with a vengeance when you stop adhering perfectly.

Isn’t it the same thing as Atkins?

I agree with the bolded. My weight loss didn't come back, but I kept calorie counting for at least part of the time.

The hardest part for me was keeping my electrolytes in check so as to avoid "keto flu" . . . either I felt foggy or had diarrhea from taking too much sodium. But I'll probably go back to it for the summer if I want to lose weight quickly.

+1

Keto works ok if you want to drop a fast 5lbs-10lbs before a reunion or something. It is not a permanent or healthy weightloss solution, and people overwhelmingly gain the weight back, plus more, soon after resuming a more balanced diet.

It is the same, just rebranded with a newer name.

RD here. I never recommend elimination diets (keto is just a form of one). They are good for a quick weight loss if you tend to eat a lot of the food that you're eliminating. But for most people, they are not sustainable.

Plus usually when people eliminate carbs they drop ~5 lbs of water weight from lowered glycogen stores. This has literally nothing to do with fat loss, and is essentially meaningless, but makes people feel good when they step in the scale.

It’s not even close.

These posts are so puzzling. Keto is definitely not for
Short term weight loss. If you go right back to a Hugh carb diet, of course you'll gain the weight back.

It's sustainable for people with metabolic disorders if you know and remember that carbs are poison for you. Carbs are not an essential
Macronutrient. You can run on protein and fat for the rest of your life.

I've reversed my prediabetes and I'm
Working on reversing my insulin resistance this way. My mom died relatively young from dementia caused by type 2 diabetes which was caused by her carb and sugar addiction. I'm not gonna go there!.

I am giving Keto a go for 3 months as a trial. For folks saying it is not sustainable if you transition to a calorie deficit (regardless of a plan) diet will you still gain weight? Curious how this might have worked out for others.

The weight loss is sustainable if you switch to a calorie deficit, though you will likely gain back a few pounds water weight.

People can address prediabetes/diabetes using either a high carb low fat diet or a low carb high fat diet. Or by a low calorie diet. There are many ways to address prediabetes/diabetes, keto is not the only or best way.

Congratulations on your success.
