Great city paper article exposing tax break proposals made by Evans and Mc Duffie on behalf of campaign contributor developers. https://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/news/housing-complex/article/20986715/dc-councilmembers-campaign-donors-and-lobbyists-arrange-questionable-tax-breaks-for-dupont-circle-development-projects
No suggesting of anything illegal here - but how is it we keep voting for council members who are so clearly in the pockets of developers? |
| What kills me is the pettiness of all of it. They donate thousands and get millions in tax breaks back. |

DC's issue is that a lot of our smartest people - Fed's - are not allowed to run in partisan elections, even as an Independent.
So who's left? Lobbyists, developers, lawyers, and "activists" (who quickly get bought off). It's a pernicious problem with the DC city council. Another major issue is the loophole that allows council members to have SECOND JOBS. In addition to their $137K salaries, they can go work for others so long as there isn't a "conflict of interest." Developers are most often the ones giving Council Members a second salary. It's egregious. https://www.washingtoncitypaper.com/news/loose-lips/blog/20829331/vincent-orange-gets-an-outrageous-side-job |
It has always surprised me how cheaply these people can be bought. Even in congress, it seems like a $10k donation gets you favors. |
Local politics never attracts the best or the brightest. These people are all low-grade grifters with no morality. |

One party rule.
Why is anyone the least bit surprised? |

They voted to approve the Marion Barry, Jr. Statue. Why? Do you really believe that Bowser or anyone else on the council really believes that Barry should be the face of the DC govt?
Of course not. |
