From experiences with two different kids:

1. Did College of Agriculture visits at both UMD and VT. UMD was fantastic. At VT we felt that they actively tried to talk our DC out of their chosen major (mind you, DC has been interested in nothing but pre-vet since about age 7).

2. We had thought that both Oberlin and UVM would be too woke for our kid, but the kid loved them.

3. JHU was at the top of our kid's list but the tour guide was an entitled jerk and totally ruined the impression. The kid did not even end up applying.

4. Both the kid and I wanted to love Franklin & Marshall but hated it. It really seems on the decline.

Can you elaborate about F&M? My DD is also pre-vet and on paper it's a great option for her. We haven't visited yet.

In our kid's words "it seemed dead and miserable" and unfortunately that about sums up the experience we had. And we really, really went in prepared to love it.

It seemed half-empty. The model dorm room we saw was dark and tiny. My kid asked about the pottery studio and was told that only art majors can use it because it's "too expensive." Sadly, to me the place looks like it's not doing particularly well.

F&M's online student reviews were next level horrible so we didn't even visit and took it out of consideration.

I thought my kid who liked Emory would like Tufts because they’re so similar in some ways, but they weren’t crazy about Tufts.

Left feeling like BC’s perspective was “if you feel like you deserve a presentation on what makes us interesting or unique we are too good for you.” Blech.

Wow! We had the exact opposite experience at BC. Everyone was lovely and warm, and the presentation was on point, from our perspective. The kids were polished but approachable and my DD LOVED the look and feel of the campus.

William and Mary- loved, thought it would feel kind of provincial, instead felt a bit nerdy, academic and charming, in a good way

NYU is about to get a whole lot more “scary” for your kid.

As is: raped and murdered, scary.

Yes, nothing to worry about. The criminals’ workloads will be so heavy it will probably only be raped OR murdered.

Nah. But NYC might actually be more affordable for your kid if she or he wants to live there after graduation.
