8407 Kitchen & Bar in Silver Spring is closed! Nearby kid-friendly alternatives?

Anonymous
I was about to make a reservation for tonight since we have an out of town guest, and I see that it is now closed as of a couple weeks ago.

Any suggestions for nearby alternatives that we can take both an older family member and an early elem. well-behaved kid to? Our typical go-to restaurant is Cafe Deluxe in downtown Bethesda, but wanted to try somewhere different for a change.

We are also open to DC places--we're in upper 16th area, so Petworth and thereabouts is also fine.

TIA!

In that general area...I have not taken my kids there, but some friends have said that All Set (DTSS) works for kids and has a somewhat similar vibe to Kitchen Bar.

How about Republic in Takoma Park?

OP here. I know many people like Republic, but we’ve been once before anddon’t really love the menu. As for All Set, that wasn’t on my radar—looks promising!

May be too late for tonight, but brookland's finest is great:

People in DTSS seem to like the Firehouse Restaurant for family/kids outings.

I can see how the space would be decent enough for kids, but man I don't care for the food.

How about Eggspectation in Silver Spring. Good balance of adult and kid friendly food. We go to the one in Ellicott City, but they're very similar.

OP here. Thanks for the recs! Will definitely check some of these out.

We ended up going a little fancier and a little further than anticipated, to Firefly in DuPont. Nice enough for the older family member, food was good, and kid loved decorating the cookie.

Here’s a list of kid-friendly recs I looked over before deciding on Firefly, in case others are interested:

Just don't go to Rays the Classics. NOT kid friendly in the least. Actually kid hostile. Just saying.

All set is a good option. We also love mcgintys. The dining room is nice and kid friendly (toddler and bigger kid menus with some real food options). And the adult food is not all pub and Irish, their chef is really doing some good things.

I really really like this place. There's always Busboys and Poets also.
