| ^^ more photos from Business Insider = nice rooms. https://www.businessinsider.com/harvard-yard-university-freshman-dorm-tour-photos-2023-9. Still need more proof? Google freshman Harvard rooms. |
Telegraph and Shattuck avenues are commercially centered around students with the Northside giving off a more relaxed, tree lined residential vibe |
That was me. I was speaking from my experience with UC. I stand corrected about privates, and really should have known given my family’s BU tour. |
lol |
I wish we stopped there. How did it compare to Vassar? |
DP. Sorry. Actual quotes from actual Harvard students, printed in The Harvard Crimson absolutely takes precedence over a... Wikipedia article?? It is YOU who has lost this argument and are looking more and more idiotic with every post. YOU go away - and take the chip on your shoulder with you. https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2024/5/23/rundown-undergraduate-dorms-feature/ |
None of your links work. Buh bye. |
What are you struggling with? I can see the photos fine. https://www.businessinsider.com/harvard-yard-university-freshman-dorm-tour-photos-2023-9 |

Toured with DS1 (went in undecided major) wanted urban, fairly big college on east coast
Loved Boston University Northeastern - I hated it but he loved it Pitt - great vibe, cool city, great offerings Brown - high reach but kid loved the open curriculum Meh BU - kid said it felt too preppy Nope NYU - felt too scary for kid lol Toured with DC2 (engineering) wants big school, loves to watch sports, will go as far as mid-west Loved Purdue - engineering powerhouse, didn’t mind it being remote UMD-CP - surprisingly loved it Meh VA Tech- couldn’t envision 4 years in Blacksburg Michigan Ann A- gorgeous campus, wasn’t thrilled that engineering labs/ school was so far from main campus, certainly would go if accepted but didn’t ED there - not that passionate about it MIT- a high reach, expected to love it, felt overwhelmed by it Nope UMBC - I couldn’t understand why but got a no not even applying UIUC - too remote, great program tho |
Confused. Boston University is BU. Also I don't think BU is preppy at all. |

14:49 here
I should add we weren’t swayed one way or another by the tour guides. I don’t understand how anyone can make a $100-$200k decision in 1 tour by 1 kid. Take it all with a grain of salt. Each visit we reached out ahead of time to have coffee with a CURRENT student from their school or larger social network.. We got 30-45 minutes like that at most but not all the schools. It was super helpful to then have the kids exchange cell phones and text follow up questions. You need multiple points of data, experiences and opinions to determine if the school might be the right FIT for your specific KID. Also your kid will mature and be more focused later senior year vs 11th grade. Then once accepted go again for accepted students day. sorry not sorry for the all caps! Pace yourselves and good luck !! |
Confused. Illinois, Michigan, and Purdue are not on the east coast. |
Probably meant BC |
You are correct. BU is not preppy. I meant BC is preppy. According to my kid fwiw |
Correct. That’s DS2 who was willing to go to mid-west. DS 1 only wanted east coast. |
