Looking for reasonably priced event photographer

I have a favorite local photographer, but just want to compare to others around here. I'm looking for someone who can capture motion, specifically. I'm googling, but if you have any suggestions, please post!

I don't know if she does what you are looking for but this woman just did engagement shots of my brother and I really like what she has posted on her website. She bills herself as a wedding photographer but I think her website it worth a look .... http://meganbeth.com/blog/

I know a whole range of photogs (I'm an event planner). What's your idea of "reasonable"?

I have 2 events coming up, each about 1.5 hours. My friend-of-the-family photographer, who does mainly wedding/family pics, quoted me $200, but I can go up to $500 if I find someone who is good with motion, or capturing dancers in motion. I would pay extra to use a few of them commercially, and keep the rest for personal use and portfolio shots.

Is your range of $200-$500 your budget for the session fee, or is that what you want to spend on everything including prints?

I don't really need prints, just digital files. I'm hoping $500 or less for an hour session and a disc.

Ok, then go with your friend. I can't think of a professional photographer I would recommend that would take $500 for his/her time and give you digital files. That likely would be a loss for the photographer. Professional processing of the photos can take several hours, not to mention the prep time and all the overhead.

Hi Zumbamama,

You might want to give RCS Photography a call, contact information should be on their website: http://www.photographybyrcs.com/

I am not sure about their fees, but I feel confident they would do an excellent job with capturing motion given they photograph a lot of sporting events. I was just on their website and their intro slideshow has a lot of sports photos that could probably give you a feel for their quality. Looks pretty darn good to me!

I am guessing they would give you the digit files, too. They provided them to me for my wedding! Might be worth your time to check out.

Nice jump shot on the RCS site!

Actually it would be more laborious to make prints than to burn a bunch of raw files on a CD. I have worked with many photographers who can supply unedited files because I have the software to edit/retouch them...but I don't know many local photographers.

But it turns out my old racing photographer buddy is in town the same week as one of my events...so I struck an even better deal. Good old barter system! But I will check out RCS for my big November event.
