https://www.landsend.com/products/womens-starfish-pants/id_219545?sku_0=::BLA I've been looking for an everyday pant like this. I SAH and am up and down with little kids all day, so I need a pant that is comfortable and easy to sit in. I am looking for one step up from yoga or athletic pants: a pant that's comfy like a yoga pant, but looks like a normal pant. I ordered two sizes, as I'm a little tall and unsure of which size works best. However, both sizes just look so...dorky on me. Like my mom's pants. I want to love them - they're a really comfortable basic black pant - but something about the cut isn't working for me. Is it the length? Does anyone know what I mean, and/or where to find what I seek? Thanks. |
I swear this is not a joke, but I got a really awesome pair of stretchy ponte pants from Kmart that look really cute. They’re skinny leg, but not QUITE as tight as a legging, and have a wide waistband. The fabric is pretty thick and they look really nice with a plaid button down or a sweater. |
NP. I believe it. I got something like that at Target a few years ago, but I only bought one pair and haven't seen them since. These sound exactly like what I'm looking for. |
I have the starfish pants, and I like them -- just what you are describing. I got them a few years ago, though, and LE is terrible about quality control, so maybe you got a bad batch. Did you get the straight leg one? I think they have a couple different cuts in Starfish, and some of them are more old lady than others.
I also have a similar pair I got from Hanna Andersson when I was ordering kid's clothes. Not sure if they still have them in stock. I think the key is to make sure they they are not too big -- baggy will just look like sweat pants. |
I am short and have noticed that its harder to find non-dumpy old lady look pants when you have short legs. Taller women can look great in the same pants that make me look like I'm taking the bus to AC. |
Go get some pairs of good black ponte leggings from WHBM. I have two pairs that are fucking awesome. They look decent with a long sweatshirt or tunic and athletic shoes when you are running around with kids or doing errands. |
Nanny here and these pants are my uniform. Try the slim cut style, they are way less baggy! |
I think these are such a mom style, they sort of have a defeated air to them. LE does lots of things well but these aren't one of them. |
Op here. Thank you for the suggestions! I really wanted to love the Starfish pants, but the cut is not for me. I feel the same way about the shirts and cardigans too. I love the colors and fabrics but the cuts just don't work for my body. Off to try Target, Walmart, and Kmart! Thank you! |
I just got the starfish straight leg pants and really like them! Maybe try that fit? |
I don't understand how these aren't just [thicker] yoga pants? They don't have pockets or anything...? Maybe check Athleta for their line of 'travel' pants. The new Target line also has decent slim-leg cropped pants that are cute with a sweater or blazer. |
I dunno, OP. These are pretty momtastic even on the model, so there's probably not much hope for us normals. |
I can't peovide advice on these pants (as they look mom-ish to me even in the photo), but I suggest looking in Lucy for the elusive comfortable but step up from yoga pants - they have a style I like called something like the traveller or city pant which is comfy but definitely a pant not workout gear. |
LL Bean has a similar but more flattering style--perfect fit pants. Everything I've tried from LE looks dorky.

What about the Old Navy pixie pants? They look nice and they have a little stretch to them.
