So after 4 years of intensive intervention, our DS with HFA/ ADHD combined has "graduated" from school-based OT (fine motor) and ST (articulation). We have moved out of the area and the school services here for 2nd grade do not include ST for pragmatics or OT for gross motor coordination.
We think this may be a good thing because our DS was really starting to resist being pulled out for those services because it set him apart. And that social awareness is something we want to capitalize on. So now we are working to redesign his support strategies. Emotional regulation and flexible thinking are his biggest challenges. We are thinking that a social skills group, cub scouts for natural application, and continuing swim lessons would be good. We are on wait lists for OT- he enjoys that. And then maybe work on keyboarding this year at home since kids get chromebooks in 3rd grade. What else should we be thinking of? As a fun aside- when the ST pulled him for his new evaluation he offered to say toothpaste, this, that, other and hypothesis if she would just let him go back to science where they were talking about frogs. |
