Good decision on his part clubs are going in opposite directions
if talking leagues this makes sense. If talking winning… hearing grumbling at VDA after this seasons playoffs. Fickle crowd is loud. Not everyone is sold…

You must be talking about the VDA 09 BP super team that did not make it out of their group in San Diego?

I assume parents are upset. When you consider their daughters have played in the round of 16 in the two years before BP’s arrival and then get dominated in group play. Many of the players that carried the team in previous years had a good seat from the bench in San Diego as BP crashed out of the playoffs early.

Great X account though…

So the Pupp is a fraud? What exactly or how has he achieved a position like the one he has?
inherited good teams and players at the st j. Built his placement roledex and has a good placement track record. Cue shruggy arms

I wouldn't say he's a fraud, but I think his connections to US soccer, coupled with the college contacts he and his wife have has allowed for him to be a great recruiter of talent to his teams. It seems though, in the highest leverage situations his teams largely come up short. Maybe he just keeps getting out coached at the top level, but his ability to give out National Team ID camp invites overshadows that fact. I mean really the 09 VDA team was on the shortlist of betting favorites (From around the country, not just the DMV area) to win a national title, at a minimum at least make the national finals in Richmond. They didn't even make it out of their group, and it wasn't even close... He'll dangle a couple more ID camp invites, bring in some new girls, and try it all again next year I guess.

This will be an interesting season for the 09 VDA since they’ve picked up a few NVA players. Some are trapped and VDA will benefit when ECNL goes to SY. Not sure how many will be thrilled with going from a starting/impact role to potentially a bench warmer.

Twice as many boys play club. They can make twice as many fees and the lower the team, the higher the revenue

That already happened this year and it showed in San Diego.

VDA 09 was outcoached not only in San Diego but in the season building up to finals. That team was not prepared for elite level play. You have two national team players + I dont know how many US ID invites and cant make it out of group play ie: the rest of your team is not up to par and/or you havent been coached well. AS was actually the one doing most of the coaching in San Diego, not BP...I wouldnt count on anything different this season. They may have added a couple players but nothing that will address their issues on that team.

He is good at recruiting and promoting individual players. He is not good at player development or in game tactics. Not a fraud if you know what you are getting and why.

I know, not the VDA thread, but what makes you say that? VDA can only play the teams on their schedule and not sure how much more they could have done with pushing for certain teams to play against in showcases, etc. It certainly looked like they were doing a lot of "training" leading up to playoffs per their socials...but, their showing in the group in San Diego wasn't great for sure.

BP does a ton of promotion of the team and their players that's for sure. If that's the goal, then he's winning there.

Just to further poke, Richmond United 09 is back in the Final 8 again for the 3rd time in 4 years. Not sure what their secret sauce is to be able to continue to get our of group and win the knockout round to make it back. San Diego Surf will be a tough opponent for sure for them in the Round of 8.
