APS black student singled out to play cotton picking game

S. is an eighth-grade student at Gunston Middle School (GMS). GMS has long benefitted from S’s matriculation and contributions. S personifies young Black excellence; his strong academic performance, athleticism and sportsmanship, and superior social competency skills have strengthened the school’s performance and culture. What S. has given to GMS, however, has not been reciprocated.

Jut by BEING there, he his student has made GMS a better place!

It’s so awful that his mom is putting this stuff out there for it to be picked apart. I know this kid this is all ridiculous. He is neither superior nor hated.

This thread just keeps on giving. Keep it coming. It's quite entertaining.

Thank you. I was hoping it would offer a basis for a 10M claim beyond “social emotional and physical harm” but no such luck.

They do have a point about the name G Mason, I think. Not a 10-mill point, though.

This poor child is going to need so much therapy. Imagine hanging your kid out to dry just to try to make a quick buck.

Omg they mention the Key bathroom wall incident to support their claim that he is being bullied/receiving threats based on his race which could actually be carried out. What a reach.

And also they claim “once a popular child”, what a bizarre statement about one’s kid. As if popularity means a damn thing.

What are they talking about?

“Additionally, in May 2020, Yorktown High School's administration engaged in blatantly racist behavior when it approved the publication of a banner that oriented pictures of children of color in shadows to create the outline of the school's initial letter, "Y."

Huh, sounds like they are claiming some admin or art teacher at Yorktown outlined the letter Y with black children. Pretty diverse school if all the other letters were outlined in different races.

‘Keisha gonna Keisha.

This whole thing has gone beyond parody.

Pretty sure the attorney or parent passed the demand letter onto NAACP, which shared it with the media. It was originally linked in this article:

https://abc3340.com/news/nation-world/8th-grader-forced-to-play-cotton-picking-game-family-asks-for-10m-settlement

The demand is an utter embarrassment! Not a single actual colorable legal claim is identified.

It was the company they used to make the banner, so not created by anyone in APS. However, it wasn’t caught by anyone in APS before being put up.

And the Campbell story being mentioned? Again, a BLACK parent gave the seeds to the teacher. They didn’t fall from the sky. She destroyed the plant and apologized immediately after being Twitter shamed.

Not sure how any of these incidents have anything whatsoever to do with this demand.

Poor kid. The ONLY reason he was bullied about any of this is because of the lawsuit his mom filed. She literally created the problem here.

I really don’t think he was bullied. I imagine he got comments but the kid is huge and athletic and has lots of friends.

Public schools are not in the reimbursement business. They are in the GIVING A FREE EDUCATION business. Families and students are the ones who should be grateful and reciprocate by being good, upstanding, CONTRIBUTING members of society! What this superior child has been given in return by Gunston is A FREE PUBLIC EDUCATION that he wasn't even entitled to because he didn't actually live in Arlington.
