We are headed to Sea Colony next week and it will be the first time we'll be staying there. We're staying on the tennis side. What grocery stores are nearby? I've been trying to find info on that and nearby restaurants but it seems what's online is outdated information. I also can't find any info on the outdoor pool at the fitness center.
Any suggestions? Thanks! |
OP again. Also--can we Uber instead of taking the tram? Or are Ubers not allowed in Sea Colony parking lots? |
There is a large Giant in Ocean View that we typically go to - takes 15 or so minutes to get there from Sea Colony. There is a Weiss Market across the street from it. There are a couple small Shore Foods closer to Sea Colony but they are quite small/adequate for bread and milk, fruit, etc.
Sea Colony Marketplace has a few restaurants and the Cottage Cafe, there is a Grotto Pizza in South Bethany. Most restaurants are located in downtown Bethany including Bethany Blues, Grotto and Five Guys. |
Best grocery store is on Rte 26 on your way in to town (it's a Giant). There are little grocery stores closer to Sea Colony but we try to stock up either on our way in or take a couple hours to do so one of the first couple of days. You can get milk & basic stuff (bread, frozen pizza, yogurt, eggs, deli meat) at the CVS right there.
Tons of restaurants in town: Bethany Blues BBQ, 14Global, Blue Coast (much more upscale, a little out of town, nice for date night), if you have a car then we like McCabe's (little Gourmet Market) for sandwiches/breakfast. |
Ubers aren't going to use the parking lots, I'm sure you could get picked up with an Uber if you want. The shuttles are good for going to the beach or the shopping center if you don't want to walk or you are too far into the tennis community. Yes, there is an outdoor pool at the fitness center with a snack bar. There are a couple other outdoor pools in the tennis community as well, you are allowed to use all the SC pools. There is an indoor pool at the fitness center and one in SC East as well. |
Closest grocery is a local store - Hockers G & E. go north on route one, left on Fred Hudson and it will be on your leafy just past the Salt Pond (was a Harris teeter a few years ago). That's so much better than fighting traffic on 26 |
Yeah, no, this is not the closest to Sea Colony... |
+2 to the Giant. We'll stop by on our first day and get all the groceries needed for the week. Don't need to stop by again.
Tons of restaurants in town besides the aforementioned ones. Off the Hook (though not in town) and Pie are some of our favorites. We stay on the tennis side as well. There are plenty of outdoor pools on that side. What information are you looking for? How old are your kids? You might want to consider bringing bikes or renting them from the little bike rental store at the MarketPlace. We find riding our bikes is the easiest way to get around and into town. |
There are a bunch of Shore Foods but they are more like convenience stores and are way overpriced. Go to the Giant once and be done. Or do your best to pack a ton of food and don't go grocery shopping at all.
Definitely make sure you stop at a Grotto Pizza. And I second the bike thing. |
Can you bring coolers of food and drinks into the pools? At the last place we stayed that wasn't allowed. Are kids allowed to play with pool toys? Is it easy to get chairs or do people get there super early? We will most likely be going to the pool at the Freeman fitness center on the tennis side. |
I didnt know this had switched from Harris Teeter, but it is definitely no further than the Giant. It used to be my preferred store over Giant. And yeah, you can bring food to the pools and kids can use pool toys. Not sure if the Fitness Center pool has the same open deck layout though - I remember it being more of a lap pool. You might want to check out another pool near you that has more of a recreation feel. They all have tables with umbrellas, etc. |
We never bought food or drinks into the pools with us but I do recall there being a picnic bench on the grounds (we don't go the one near the fitness center. We usually go to a pool a block or so away from the tennis center). You can definitely bring toys. We've never had a problem getting chairs and we usually go in the afternoon. |
