Is the current IB coordinator leaving? If so, who will take her place? Why is she possibly leaving? |
The MYP coordinator? She isn't leaving ... |
There was a lot of rumors last year about her leaving. Due to conflict/disagreement with the new principal. Have not heard anything recently. The new principal is viewed as "anti magnet." |
Which is the right path to take. As more and more colleges look less at AP's (as they lose money off of them) and look at the overall person for admittance, magnets and IB's are starting to take a turn. |
Not offering credit for APs and not wanting to see evidence of challenging classes are two different things. Successful completion of an IB program is an excellent indicator of commitment to education and success in college. Are you saying colleges are just as happy to see low level classes? |
Colleges don't lose money because of AP courses. If credit is awarded, the space can be given to another student anyway. |
Such an idiotic post... |
I think the new principal objects to the school within a school culture of the magnet. At other IB high schools IB and non-IB kids are missed for the first two year to an extent. |
missed = mixed |
The new Principal is perpetuating low standards. Even when non-magnet students at RMIB are given a chance to be in the RMIB magnet program in 11th and 12th grade - very few take up the offer.
To remove Jennifer Hoover as the RMIB Coordinator and make her an MYP coordinator (10th and 11th) and bring in another person as a magnet coordinator (11th and 12th) is a recipe for disaster. He is breaking a magnet cohort especially since IB is so very hard and these kids need the cohort. But, whatever. My youngest will not go to RMIB, even though 2 of his siblings have gone through the program, because doing the MYP diploma in 10th grade is not another thing I want him to do for IB in HS. I am surprised all the Bethesda parents are not protesting. |
Is this what they are doing? Sad to see such a great program destroyed. |
I'm guessing that there will be plenty of people who will be happy to take the place he would have taken if he were admitted and you let him go. |
Just to clarify an IB diploma (11th and 12th) was good but an MYP diploma (6th-10th btw) is bad in addition. My understanding is the only difference to an IB magnet kid is the school wide 10th grade project which is quite minimal compared to the IB magnet work load. It is pass fail. Otherwise it just involves taking a language and a few other minor requirements the IB kids are already doing. Also, how would changing the coordinator break the cohort? |
That poster is just looking for exclusivity. He or she feels that the more the RMIB magnet students have in common with the general RM population, the less exclusive the RMIB magnet program is. (OH NO!) |
"since IB is so very hard and these kids need the cohort"
But no other IB High School in MCPS has this cohort.. |
