Just happened and ortho is closed. There is nothing in the contract about replacement costs. Has anyone been through this? Any ballpark on the cost? It's a generic plastic retainer with wires. The bow wire broke away from the plastic. TIA. |
In the late 90s, around $200. When I threw mine away on a lunch tray, my mom was ready to go dig through the trash at school. A friend of mine actually went and did just that when she lost hers. |
There's a good chance the ortho will fix it for free. That has been my experience unless some sort of severe neglect caused the problem. |
Ours replaced it for free |
Can possibly fix it. |
Overheard our ortho's receptionist the other day say two people tried to fix a a kid's broken retainer (it was cracked) but it was beyond repair. She quoted the dad $400 for a replacement. |
Paid $500. Sorry. It's painful. And while my $500 may sound high, the cost will depend on your contract. If you paid a lot at the outset, your replacement cost might be low. But if you are like me and your costs were't bad upfront, your replacement costs might be high. Compare apples to apples. |
Ours got chewed on by our dog and it cost $500 to replace. |
$500 |
OUrs never replaces retainers or nightguards free. Wish I hadn't picked her. |
Since the plastic isn't broken, chances are it doesn't need to be replaced and it will be fixed for free. |
