Labeling bottles for daycare?

Anonymous
I'm returning to work soon and just noticed a line in our daycare handbook mentioning that we need to label all parts of bottles to be sent to daycare. How did others do this? Did you just write your name on them with a permanent marker, or did you get a label maker or do something else? I'm wondering what's the most lasting way to do this - would rather not have whatever marking I do peel off if I can avoid it. Thanks for any tips!

I also just started my child in daycare. A permanent Sharpie washed off all the bottles. I got another type of Sharpie called "laundry, rub-a-dub" at staples and it seems to be working better. I've seen other people using masking tape. I also looked into labels but they take a few weeks to receive and i needed something quick. Would love to hear other suggestions - there's some talk about this on old posts as well.

We used a regular sharpie. I know they wash off after a while but our daycare always wrote it back on after it came off. We just had to have it written on there initially.

Mabel's Labels work well. I had the same problem with a Sharpie.

We used a labelmaker.

This will only help for the actual bottles (not the parts), but there's a company that makes personalized rubber band type labels that you can put around bottles or sippys. Can't remember the name but they advertise in all of those parenting magazines - maybe bumpy or orbit or something?

Got it - company is Inchbug.

I bought some wide rubberbands at Staples and wrote my son's name on those. They fit over the bottles and when it comes time to wash them I just remove the rubberband so the ink doesn't run!

We use name labels at www.namebubbles.com and they are awesome. Highly recommend!

We just got printer labels from Staples, double-sided tape, and scotch tape. Put the double-sided tape, printed label, then scotch tape on top. The names don't get washed off as quickly and when they get worn down we can just take it off without leaving all that sticky gunk on the bottle.

Mabel's Labels

They make some for items that you'll put in the dishwasher. I've been using them since last November and they haven't come off. But I was able to pull them off easily when I wanted to. They've worked out great. They also make clothing labels, and shoe labels.

We don't have to label "all parts" of our bottles, just one label on each bottle. So I write her name and the # of oz on a piece of masking tape for each bottle. That label stays on till it fades or peels off. Then every morning I write the date on small strips of masking tape for each bottle. (bottle needs to be dry for the tape to stay on.) It's a pretty cheap solution - I've used the same roll of tape and sharpie for 8 months now.

In your case, I'd probably write your kid's name in a sharpie on the bottle and the part that holds the nipple. Then you can use masking tape for the day's date.
