s/o - How does your young teen girl carry her cell phone around?

Anonymous
DD is 12, and doesn't have a cell phone yet, but we are thinking about it for her 13th birthday.

How does your tween or young teen girl carry around her cell phone?

Obviously she could carry it to school in her backpack, but when out and about in the neighborhood and at the park, she doesn't want to be burdened by a purse, and because she is thin, she has always been more comfortable in leggings and other pants with no pockets. Is there another way to carry the phone? My sister gave her this pouch-like thing that seems to wrap over a waist band and clip magnetically, but I'm not sure whether that will work.

Do we just have to buy some button and fly pants with pockets, even though they are uncomfortable? And if we do, do we need pockets that zip or snap or Velcro?

Mine carries hers. She doesn't like purses and nothing has pockets.

When she takes it to sports or school, it goes in her sports bag or backpack. But if she's walking to the drugstore with friends, she has a phone and a wallet in her hands.

I was afraid of that. There has to be a better way!

When you say wristlet, are you talking about a very small purse with a small loop to go around the wrist? Or do you mean more of a wristband that has space for a phone? I seem to remember a former co-worker who had something like that.

DD puts hers in her backpack. If she doesn't have her backpack she's only allowed to put it in her pocket if her shirt will cover it. She has a light-weight jacket that has zippered outside pockets and an inside pocket she'll use. She is not allowed to walk around holding it.

DD is 14 and doesn't want to do purses of any kind, but does wear skinny jeans and can shove it in the back pocket. If she's with me she'll ask me to hold it in my purse.

I am not pleased with this, and now understand why my father yelled at me when I was a teenager that I needed to use a purse.

Will she wear it clipped to her jeans? 12 yo DS has an otter box with clip and he either clips it to his waist band or to secure it in a pocket.

That's good to know about the otter box with a clip. I hadn't thought of that.

DD has across body bag (vera bradley). When she's at sports practice she just puts it in her gym bag but when she goes to friends' houses or is out and about, she uses her VB purse. I like her to have her hands free and the risk of dropping is just too high.

Every MS/HS girl I know has a wristlet/small crossbody bag of some sort to carry their phone, a tampon/pad, their HS ID, and/or license.

Where do you live? I suggested this to my daughter and she was horrified and said NOBODY does the little crossbody bags at her school. It seems so practical to me.
