| I'm about to get some major landscaping work done in my yard and will need to do a lot watering this spring and summer. Our hose is broken and it was always such a hassle to use anyway. I'm going to buy a new hose and a new nozzle sprayer and a new contraption to hold the hose. I'm looking for suggestions on particular things people love about theirs. I will be getting this hose in and out daily. Any tips on features to look for would be greatly appreciated. |

First question, can you put in soaker hoses around shrubs and in any beds? You're going to have a very hard time hand-watering extensive new landscaping to the extent it will need it, and moving a sprinkler around can be a hassle as well as wasteful of water. If you get soaker hoses that you leave in place (you can use giant earth staples to hold them down), setting them up with quick-connectors, you can easily detach and attach your hose to different soaker hose zones. And if you buy a faucet splitter, you can run multiple hoses to different zones at the same time.
Second suggestion, have you measured how long a reach you're going to need for your hose to reach for either hand-watering or using a sprinkler? That will have a determinative effect on how big a hose reel contraption you'll need. You also might want to consider getting a featherweight style hose -- hoses get really heavy when they're long! Third, have you considered installing rain barrels at the downspouts of your gutters? Helps save on your water bills and depending on where you live you might be able to get a rebate from your county. In terms of a hose reel, if the logistics work out, I really like the wall-mount kind that swings out and has a crank to reel everything back in again. With the wheel cart kind, make sure you have a clear path to get it where you're going so you're not running over things. I don't really like the standard sits-on-the-ground reel -- they're just not as ergonomic and they get gross. Here are some hose/watering ideas (although I am not in love with their hose caddies): http://www.gardeners.com/buy/watering/garden-hoses-and-sprinklers/ |
| Best hose and reel bar none is ... rapid reel. You can watch some videos on you tube about it and order. When I was searching for a hosereel I typed...commercial grade. Now when ever I shop I use this phrase first. I have been using these reels for over 7 years.... the best. Avid gardener. |
