Story is from 2016. Police evidence lockers are located deep inside department buildings; this was obviously an inside job. These thefts occurred regularly when Marrion Barry was mayor. Sad they are still happening today. |

Back in the late 90's, I had to go to 4th District HQ on Georgia Ave for a copy of a police report for a car break in.
I was looking for the mens room and went down a hallway. At the end of the hallway, a door to the outside was being propped open (so staff could go out for smoke breaks and still be near the phone) with a Rubbermaid trash can FILLED to the top with guns. Just sitting there, visible to the whole world or anyone walking by outside. No one watching them. That's DC. |
Barry was last mayor in 1998. Things have changed since then. |
But have they changed for the better? If so, by much or only slightly? |
