Trump summoned Bowser to Oval Office ahead of the storm

Anonymous
Did you guys see this? Ridiculous that she was summoned, but I have to hand it to her for making the most of it.

"Bowser was told that she needed to be at the White House at 6 p.m., and that she could bring one guest. She chose Paul J. Wiedefeld, the general manager of Metro, hoping for an opportunity to remind the White House of the importance of the D.C. area transit system, which says it needs a major federal investment."

If you read the story, it sounds like the other way around.

They were calling for a huge blizzard and he wanted to get the lay of the land so I think it was smart of him to meet with her. Most administrations royally screw up the first snowstorm. Obama's first left my DH stranded on 66 for 8 hours. OPM made the right call yesterday and today. There are a lot of things to criticize about Trump but this isn't one of them. He absolutely did the right thing in light of the forecast.

Which is what Bowser basically said. I thought the whole thing was interesting.

Folks, it's all about his hotel. Always follow the $ with Trump. There is no other motive. He isn't concerned about ensuring that the fed govt continues to operate or that regular Americans can get to work, fly where they're supposed to, etc.

Compost reporting aka really fake news

Hey, I think this was a good call! It's logical that the DC mayor would communicate with the President on this. Also well done Bowser for taking the opportunity to bring the Metro head with her.

What specifically in the article do you dispute?

+1. This whole thing exemplifies the media's insistence Trump can do noting right. As an HRC voter, I agreed with KAC when she said if he walked on water, the media would report he couldn't swim.

Trump likes to be seen as hands-on. I'm no fan of his, but it was good for him to realize that there needs to be a partnership in the Nation's Capital between the federal government, the DC government and Metro. Kudos to Bowser (no big fan of hers either) for getting the Metro head in front of Trump.

OP here. I agree with all of this.

"Summoned" is a very loaded word.

English is a very elegant language, and the careful choice of words can convey things without really saying them. Summoned is a word with a negative connotation, although it still affords the writer some degree of plausible deniability that they were going for a particular mood. Even though they were, of course.

I heard the interview with the mayor afterwards, and she didn't sound like she was "summoned". She sounded like she was really surprised that she was invited, and shocked to see that the whitehouse actually took an interest in DC for a change.

It' just arrogant empty suits like Mary Cheh who are suggesting that the White House meeting was somehow "dissing" DC. And we know how much nuts and bolts support Cheh provides to her constituents.

Personally I think a phone call would have sufficed. They were surely meeting with their people and didn't need to go to the Oval Office to meet with him
