A teacher at Georgetown Day School has been arrested following an investigation into sexual misconduct with a student, school officials said Sunday.

The school has placed middle school history teacher Mark Allen-Gifford on leave and barred him from coming to campus or contacting students.

Head of School Russell Shaw wrote in an email to the school community Sunday that he learned of the allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor and Allen-Gifford’s subsequent arrest and arraignment Saturday. Police said the alleged misconduct did not happen on the school’s campus, Shaw wrote.
