Raids in northern virginia?

There was a raid in Falls Church today.
Where else?
How can one help the immense uncertainty, fear people go through?

What kind of raid? Drug? ICE? Need more info.

Washington Post reported ICE raids in Alexandria and Annandale. I didn't see anything about Falls Church. Where were they?

There was one by the Aldi grocery store on Rte 1 near Mount Vernon.

I work in an elementary school in the area. We are giving parents fliers about what their rights are, how to prepare in case they are picked up and community resources.

I assume you mean an ICE raid. I don't believe I know anyone undocumented (hard to say, of course) but if I did I would offer to be an emergency contact for their family, emergency home for their kids if needed, and to advocate for them by, e.g., calling elected representatives on their behalf. I don't know how helpful any of that would be in practice but it might make them feel they have a friend.

ICE - the Washington Post reported on it - it's happening in six states. In VA, it's mentioned as Alexandria and Annandale. Absolutely chilling, the way they are going about this.

I feel terrible about this. Are there other ways we can help?

I completely support this. People need to follow rules and go through proper processes. this is for all of our safety and the safety of your children.

You're ignorant. There is no reason to go door to door and "randomly" stopping Latinos to ask for papers. There's no reason to deport people who have been living peacefully in our country since they were children. That does not help our safety.

Try reading the article before setting up your very own strawman.

This makes me feel sick to my stomach. My students (who were born here for the most part) are already on edge. -ESOL teacher

I read the article and there is nothing wrong with PPs statement. they are literally going door to door, going to schools, holding random checkpoints in unmarked cars asking for documents. They are not just targeting people who have been charged with a crime, as the administration has claimed. They have deported some people immediately, according to the article, and have detained others. Someone please tell me how this makes America more safe. I'd argue it actually has the opposite effect, as it freaks out the entire immigrant community, members of which will no longer report crimes to the police.

There's no straw man. In these raids they have deported mothers who came to this country as children and have been contributing members of society. This isn't only violent criminals. It's scary and it should not be the priority. Did you read the article?
