DC moving into Maryland?

This came across my neighborhood listserv:

Congressman Chavis is said to be considering moving to DC residential areas into Maryland. I don't like this idea at all. The mayor's job will probably be eliminated along with the city Council and other elected officials. On top of all of this, our property tax will go through the roof....

Has anyone heard about this? This is a horrible idea!

Here's a description of what Chaffetz wants to do. Moron!

During a House Oversight Committee hearing, Chaffetz casually mentioned that he was "exploring" having the residential areas of D.C. retrocede back to Maryland, though his exploration apparently has not yet involved speaking with people from the District or the Old Line State about the idea.

He has a long history of meddling in D.C. affairs, including pledging to block D.C.'s Death With Dignity Act and voting to overturn the Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Act.

Move DC back into Maryland, so that DC gets to vote for Senators and Representatives. Then we'd probably have Donna Edwards as our Senator, instead of Milquetoast Van Hollen.

Well it sort of would be DC getting statehood- -just not the state we wanted (not offense MD)!

Um, Arlington County was retroceded into Virginia through a simple vote of Congress.

This makes a lot of sense. The only folks who are likely to be opposed are (a) MD GOP governor Larry Hogan, who's likely to be re-elected but wiuuld not be if DC joined MD: (2) the 'professional' statehood lobby in DC, the "shadow" this-and-that's and the DC political nomenclartura who salivate at the fantasy of creating an entire state-level bureaucracy for jobs and spoils for favored cronies. Imagine if Marion You-know-who, rather than being mayor-for-life had been DC state governor-for-life with the power to pardon criminals!

Let me guess-- you don't live in either DC or MD.

I would guess 90% of MD and 90% of DC would both oppose this.

Dc resident here. I would oppose this strongly. And I am in neither of the two groups that PP outlined above.
