S/O MPD Chief Peter Newsham

In the other thread about the incoming DCPS chancellor, a poster stated that chief Newsham was a respectable person and because he is white, Bowser should make him permanent. When it was pointed out that he was far from perfect, nobody in DCUM seemed to care. It has been reported in the local news that:

1. He beat his ex wife and broke her jaw
2. He physically abused his ex-girlfriend,
3. He cost the city more than 15 million dollars in settlement and legal fees when he ordered the arrest and hog tying of political protesters, and
4. He ordered the arrest of an 11 year old alleged rape victim and accused her of filing a false police report
5. New sham was also responsible for the detective unit that was responsible for investigating sexual assault crimes. Remember, a Human Rights advocacy group accused former Chief Lanier of tampering with the sex crime statics and discouraging rape victims to go forward.

So, all the hand wringing against Antwan Wilson(?) is because (1) he is a Black man appointed by a Black woman, or (2), he does not have the qualifications they deem important for DCPS. I get the second, if that's true. However, this same chorus of naysayers are completely silent on the appointment of the Chief of Police who is a criminal who has gotten away with his crimes, but, it's okay because he is white. SMH.

Thanks for posting OP. I'm not taking all of your bullets at face value and will research Newsham further myself but it is good to see this stark disparity in criticism. MPD has a lot of reforming to do, and have to deal with an uptick in repeat offender crimes. They certainly need someone with strong credentials who isn't compromised him/herself.

Gross. Case search him in Maryland. He's got kids with his ex wife and another girlfriend. And a protective order.

There are other stories. Cathy Lanier was a master of manipulating the media. Now that she is gone, things are being slowly revealed. What's done in the dark shall eventually (hopefully) find its way into the lot. MPD needs a scrubbing. And Bowser did little or no research when she put that man at the helm of a corrupt DC organization. Newsham's criminal and negligent deeds have been protected for many years. The citizens of the District have paid royally for them. He should have lost his badge, gun, and job many years ago, but blue silence is worth more tha gold, or so it seems.

There is no uptick. Repeat offender crimes have been happening here for decades.

I saw that Fox 5 report and was struck by how obviously biased it was (yes, even for Fox). They were awarded joint custody, which is not uncommon in this day and age. Also, how do you dispute the multiple hospital visits from the wife, his admission of having his gun taken away from another incident. I guess you also thought it was okay to arrest an eleven year old and charge the child with filing a false report. Perhaps you just think women bring abuse on themselves. Not surprising since their are so many apologists for men's bad behavior and police bad behavior. You PP are an apologist for both. And Fox local news is not equivalent to Fox Hannity news. Oh, and you dismiss the court findings and the settlement award in the Pershing Park false arrests. Perhaps you think it's okay to hog tie people up for hours if you don't like their political positions.

Even of the article is slanted, this is very disturbing. Take the things we know to be true, 1) the arrest of an 11 year old rape victim that had medically documents sexual injuries and multiple semen present (what 11 year old is going to perfectly recall such a traumatic event?), 2) passing out drunk with his service weapon, and 3) the world bank arrests that caused the city milllions. How the fuck is this guy still in MPD at all??!!

If you play the game, te police will always protect their own. The question is, why has Bowser elevated him to police chief. I wonder if the other two jurisdictions that he failed to get the nod for head COP did their due diligence, researched and found out about this guy. Bowser should be ashamed of herself.
