His life actually got better at some point: it sounds like he was a heroin addict as a teenager and then went on to graduate (about 5 years behind schedule) from community college, 4 year university, a master's program and start a PhD.
Righting the course like this is EXTREMELY rare for someone who does heroin at an early age. I'd hazard a guess that his mom was really supportive. It's nearly impossible to pull yourself up like this from heroin use without significant external support.
As to why he fell into heroin at a young age? I grew up in a rural town where heroin use in endemic and it touches every kind of kid and family. (there by the grace of God do I....)

Clearly this guy is evil/sick/perverse but I wouldn't place the blame on his parents; if anything his life trajectory indicates that they were involved. Someone was involved.

Supposedly his dad had many traits similar to him.

Or - it could be he had no support, but realized he had to make a life for himself, or stay where he was - he was a part time security guard. Wondering when his illness started presenting - he had outbursts early in his school life.

Mental illness doesn’t make someone a murder, but anyone that does a murder like that has to be mentally ill. Normal people don’t stab 4 strangers to death in their bed

But he has to have normalcy to stalk and plan out these murders, which it appears he was more than capable of doing. I would even submit he enjoyed the idea of planning these murders. Not everyone has to be mentally ill to hurt others, even as brutal as these murders are described. This MAN was not mentally ill, he just thinks he's smarter than everyone else, including those "stupid" victims. Not buying he is mentally ill.

Nope.

I think it's distressing for people to acknowledge that there are just really shitty, awful, vile people in this world and they're born this way. Most are men, but it has nothing to do with mental illness, being bullied, or being abused yourself. Some people are just born wanting to inflict harm on others with no f*cks given.

Something happened in his home, and his dad reportedly was similar to him. Hurt people hurt people - but not because of the bullying - something bad happened at home.

I have no idea what how how he was mentally ill but this is a misunderstanding of mental illness - someone with mental illness could still plan and carry something out. Some people are very organized in their disordered thinking. Bryan had OCD, he was rigid, he was obsessive, he wasn't an all over the place person - mental illness or not.

Mental illness can be a contributing factor without being an excuse. In some cases people have disordered thinking, impulsivity, poor insight etc but they still have sufficient insight and cognition to know that murdering people is wrong and that it is a criminal act and that they will be in extensive trouble if caught. They aren't being driven by al altered reality, just disordered thinking.

Hmm, I get it, he could not decide in which order he wanted to kill those four helpless kids. Got it, still not buying mental illness. Calculating, cold, methodical KILLER who should be hung.

Why do you feel the need to justify what he did? bad thing happens to a lot of people and they don’t go around killing others.

Not saying that all people to whom bad things have happened kill people - just making observations, based on what I have read. You don't have to take it personally.

look at Eileen Wuornos - born with a predisposition to evil (wasn't she born from incest?) raped by her grandfather and abandoned then mistreated by multiple men.

So for her it was a combination of nature & nurture. Probably the same for most psychopaths because you do need to be one to kill people.

You are looking for an “explanation” of why he did it. He did it because he is evil.

That might be one component… it’s not that simple.

This. Personal responsibility. In my mind the only question is how he should die and can it be done quickly with no hopes of appeal. Gee, wouldn't that be nice?

Something bad happens in millions of homes every day.
