What is the first thing you learned to cook

Anonymous
My 9 year old: Pancakes, french toast, all different types of eggs, smoothies, crackers with melted cheese, bean and cheese nachos. He also makes up his own cookie recipes (which are.... interesting).

His 12 year old brother isn't as interested in the kitchen and pretty much sticks to mac and cheese.

My first memories of cooking (beyond baking, which I helped with from a young age) involve taco meat.

The first thing I ever learned to make was roti, did that very often with my mom starting at 5. At 8, I learned how to make Chinese minced meat and steamed egg from my dad.
The first thing I taught my children to make was eggs, and rice. Rice in the rice cooker and on the stove. First scrambled, then easy/hard over and then boiled. Then they learned how to make spaghetti bolognese and lasagna. Around 10-11 they started learning how to make a roast, adobo, sinigang, curry, and other meals from both of our cultures.

For me it was:

to boil water.

then..

a tea. from a bag, in the cup.

then it was ..

hot coco..

then it was

a boiled egg soft and hard.. That felt like science!

then pancakes..

then a white cake form scratch..

then simple soup

Then potatoes

then meat stuff..

and then it all opened up the flood gates of cooking.
