But not surprising given the people she is calling out.

All it means is she can’t see posts from one particular person. That person is perfectly free to engage with everyone else, but she is not entitled to have the attention of that one person. Maybe she should consider, though, why this person felt the need to block her in particular.

But if that fragile flower starts an active thread about a topic she’s interested in she won’t see it.

Either engage in the group or don’t. Don’t be a twot.

It's pretty obvious to me that someone blocked her because they did not want her to comment on their posts. That seems wrong to me.

Yes. I agree. It’s basically a “public” forum. You can’t silence another parent at a school board meeting. No matter how much they yell and throw a fit.

If someone is out of line the moderator should handle it.

If you are too fragile to handle other opinions don’t post.

But this isn’t silencing someone. It’s just walking out of the room when she’s talking so you don’t have to hear her. She’s still free to share every thought she’s ever had on FB with everybody else.

It is standing up in front of the room to speak but putting headphones on a subgroup so they can’t hear or participate.

So, join a group and you’re morally obligated to unblock anyone you’ve ever blocked because they might join and want to hear what you have to say in that group?

Do people really block all that many people? I didn’t realize so many people were that fragile.

(I'm still in Halloween hangover and recovering from the time change. Post appropriately placed below)

I only minimally engage on AEM, but, one time, when doing so, politely but, pointedly addressed someone who was being hysterical and rude to a teacher. In a series of two comment exchanges they blocked me. I only realized because this person has gone on to write other hysterical types of posts that my friends have seen and shared and I realized I couldn't see them. I never would have thought that our interactions rose to the level of "blocking", but, it seems like some people cannot hear a viewpoint other than their own, or, can't handle having their ridiculousness identified as such. Seems super childish and petty, but, whatever. I haven't lost any sleep over it. And this individual's hysteria speaks for itself.

Exactly. So childish. They shouldn't even bother posting if they can't handle other opinions.

One has to wonder what covid has done to everyone. We have all gone crazy. A bunch of adult women are fighting on facebook on whether its acceptable to be blocked by another person. I'm o gives two sh***. I rarely comment on AEM - Like many, I'm trying to navigate this pandemic the best I can and I don't agree with either of the extremes represented in AEM. I see the merits of both arguments (keeping schools closed and opening them). Though I do feel that if the country/state really cared about kids education, we would push to keep everything closed EXCEPT the schools. Or at the very least have the restaurants, bars closed and retail stores closed. Then have a robust paycheck protection program + UBI to combat the lost income. Anyhow, for some reason, I got blocked by someone on AEM even though the most I do is like a post that I agree with. I didn't post some long rant about being blocked and certainly being blocked didn't affect AEM as a forum of debate.

During some contentious debate about a year ago, one very frequent poster said something like “if you ‘liked’ any of these comments, rest assured that it has been noted.” Given the frequent nastiness and score keeping on AEM, it doesn’t surprise me that people block others over things from mere differences of opinion to actual verbal attacks. If an AEM member *truly* wants open, civil discourse, then she needs to be speaking up when those verbal attacks and veiled threats happen, and to be civil herself. That’s the way to prevent wide scale blocking, not engaging in guerrilla tactics and then complaining to the group when someone blocks you.

honestly, sometimes people just hit the wrong button as well. I just noticed that I had a couple of people blocked. no idea why, so I can only assume I accidently hit something.

How in the world could that be obvious to you? Do you somehow know who it is that blocked her? And are they posting a lot? Seems like a lot of speculation on your part. Do you also think it's OBVIOUS that Biden is making money off Ukraine and China?

But this meta stuff is so much better than the real AEM which is why I read this but not that.
