exactly. There is no way that Northern VA is going to meet the metrics that they set out. So, the only question is how they are going to spin those metrics to make it look like "it's close enough!"

Fairfax had a big spike today. Loudoun will get the results from their testing blitz back Fri. or Sat. That's going to be a big bump. Then Fairfax Cnty is doing a 2-day testing blitz in Annandale/Falls Church on Sat/Sun -- so those big numbers will be coming back on Mon/Tues of next week.

If DC and MD open up, it will be hard to see how northern VA stays shut. But, based on the increases in cases and hospitalizations, NOVA will not qualify for having 14 days of declining data.

They may not have 14 straight days of declining data all summer.

true, but if you look at the charts and factor in the three days of testing blitz results still to come (Loudoun + Fairfax)... it's unlikely to be a declining curve.

Isn't the metric declining percentage of positive test results? The "testing blitz" actually could make it easier to meet the metric. If you test lots and lots of people, then the percentage of positive results is probably more likely go down.

Yes. This ^

That describes us. Yep.

yeah- this is pretty much how I feel. Up until that point I felt like things were semi predictable. I could 'follow the data' etc. Then when NOVA convinced Northam to keep us locked down, and Northam is setting a criteria for reopening NOVA of when 'local leaders are comfortable???" Yeah- this doesn't work.

Or if it had been a collective voice of all leaders (ie, board vote) and not just individual board chairs and mayors.

You can go to church with half your congregation and Virginia Beach is open. Go figure.

Do NOT even get me started with this church nonsense. What a crock of crap.

Mabel and Harold can get the rona at church, Madison and Kaitlin can get it at the crowded patio bar, and meanwhile pools and splash pads at half or less capacity, and outdoor camps and playgrounds, are “too dangerous.” Nice.

Most of the country is open. Our family has been socializing with friends since May 1 and all is fine. This is getting crazy.

Nova is test blitzing the ho spots like Annandale. This is needed to be able to contact trace. But it will push up positives and maybe percent positives. we Need to follow hospitalization data mostly.

hot spots, not ho spots. sorry!

I suspect there are a few ho spots in Annandale as well

Yes! Let's take away all opportunities for outdoor fun for the kids, and let the adults crowd for a boozy brunch. I'm so angry about this. Either you open up the pools and camps AND the bars and church, or none.

I agree. If was are "all in this together' to stop the spread than Harold and Madision can be just as miserable as the parents & kids. If kids can't go to playgrounds or splash pads where the risk of transmission is basically null, than old people should not be out getting their hair done or eating at restaurants or shopping or any of the other activities that lots of old people are doing right now.

Virginia Beach is open to all. I don’t get it.

Pools can manage under CDC guidelines much easier than a beach on Memorial Day weekend.

If the Fairfax Home Depot this morning is any proof of anything people are reopening themselves. It is kind of a farce at this point to even act like people are staying home. Let the other businesses open now and take the necessary precautions.

So the world revolves around young children? If it doesn't directly benefit young children, it shouldn't exist?

We’re all in this together! Except the group that’s least affected, you’re in it most of all because kid stuff is the lowest hanging fruit and the easiest to blanket cancel. Have a great “summer!”

11:51 you are missing the point! We are saying that the summer restrictions/closures are ONLY impacting young children (camps, pools, playgrounds) while all other businesses (that cater to adults) are opening. I have no issue with folks going to Home Depot (wearing masks) or restaurants. I have issues with why children can't go to a pool or a playground.
