Did anyone who was NOT expecting a stimulus check receive one?

None at all. There is info saying that it is based on 2018 income and it is the stimulus and that if our income was higher in 2019 we will have that much less of a refund or owe money.

Interesting. What's the source on this? My income for 2019 is definitely much higher.

How much did you get and how did you determine that you don't qualify?

My husband filed 2019 at least a week or two ago but I guess not in time as it doesn't appear our second child born in 2019 was accounted for ($2900 vs $3400).

No source because it isn't true.

If I make more income in 2020, do I have to pay any amount back?
No, if the amount of credit a taxpayer qualifies for in 2020 is less than it was based on their 2019 return, it does not have to be paid back and it is not considered taxable income.

Got some 800, and we earned over 200K last year.

In the opposite situation, when a person’s income in fact rises from 2018/2019 to 2020, they won’t have their refunds reduced in 2020 or face any other claw-back. Say an individual filed a 2018 tax return and made $75,000 and hasn’t filed a 2019 return yet. Then in each of 2019 and 2020 they make $100,000 (above the phase-out for the rebate for an individual). This individual should receive a stimulus payment of $1,200 immediately because the IRS will use their 2018 filing data in absence of a 2019 return. But when they file for 2019 and 2020, they will not be required to pay back the advance refund. Any tax refund they have for 2019 or 2020 won’t be reduced below what it would have been otherwise.

Translation: if you made 200k in 2019 and have two kids you can expect an $850 stimulus.

Yes, but they are 18 and 21. Is that why?

How is it that everyone on this board claims to make $400k but now everyone is getting a stimulus check?
Anonymous
I haven’t gotten mine yet. And I qualify for $1,700 based on my AGI from 2019 (2018 would be similar).

When did you file your 2019 taxes? What were your AGIs in 2018 and 2019? When did your kids turn 17? Don't post the answers here. Use the answers and the provided links to answer your questions. I'm guessing you filed your 2019 taxes too late to affect stimulus and that you 18 year old was under 17 then and that you made less than 200k in 2018.

If my rebate is too large due to dependent eligibility mistakes, will I have to pay it back? Will my rebate be considered part of my taxable income in 2020?
No. Like all refundable tax credits (e.g., Child Tax Credit, Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)), any part of the rebate, even in excess, is not considered as part of taxable income.

This is absolutely ridiculous. The example is similar to my situation and I got penalized for filing my taxes for 2019 in February.
