Nanny ruined rug and chair

Guessing she’s from Russia.

More important than a well washed pair of dungarees?

I think it is reasonable to ask her not to wear jeans to work. Some jeans do rub off and even come with a warning.

Lol I can just picture the job listing:

ISO of loving, well educated nanny who will agree never to wear jeans or otherwise ruin my child’s pristine ivory bedroom. TIA!!!

It was just a matter of time before these things were ruined anyway. It’s not like she did it on purpose.

I have light colored furniture and rugs in my kids’ rooms and we’ve never had an issue. I would be annoyed too, but unfortunately not sure what you can do about it if you want to keep the nanny.

Is that because your baby knows by now that it better not stray off the blanket?

I had a babysitter ruin a nice rug in our living room. It smelled like poop or pee and I could never get it to smell right again, so I just rolled it up and dragged it out with the trash. What a waste of money.

I'm on team OP.

Seems as if your own kids ruined the rug, PP. I can't imagine a grown adult doing their business on a rug!

Correct a child ruined it while the babysitter was in charge of them.

And you couldn’t tell if your kid pooped or peed?! If your child’s urine and stool smell the same, get that kid to the hospital!!

It just smelled like wet straw in a barn. Could never tell where it was coming from. After a long, hard day of work I had to scrub the freakin' rug before dragging it out to the curb.

Hate that babysitter.

Oh you poor thing! I can’t even imagine your suffering! People suffering all over the globe ain’t got nothing on you.
Sending hugs, prayers and light.

You are exhausting, OP.

Wow, who are all the people responding here that OP is simply foolish for having white/light colored furniture and that she is silly for being upset? Do you just let your kids and others destroy everything in your homes? I have 3 kids (and a nanny) and all of our furniture is in pretty good shape after 6+ years - and shocker, we have some neutral/light colored items too.

Would people not be annoyed or disappointed if your nanny broke something of value in your apartment? Is that any different?

I think what happened with the nanny was clearly an accident and you can just casually mention to her that her jeans may have stained the rug so maybe she can give them an extra wash.

Geez, you people completely overreact when people are just looking for basic advice.

I had light colored rockers in both nurseries and always had a blanket on the seat for this reason. Doesn’t help much now but if you get it cleaned, thrown a blanket on it afterwards.

Anonymous wrote:Just curious why is this a "ruined" situation. Can't you try and clean it? Try getting it steam cleaned. I think its a huge jump to claim they are ruined.

Maybe it’s not ruined but hiring someone to steam clean the rug is not going to be cheap. I will call around in the AM but it’s probably at least a few hundred to get someone to come to my house to do it.

Stanley steemer, roughly $150?

More likely that it’s sweat. Urine and feces don’t smell like wet straw...

Anonymous wrote:All white furniture is stained by jeans. I don't think the nanny has any responsibility here honestly. I mean sure, ask her not to do it again, but you're the one who bought the white furniture.

I would try dabbing it with rubbing alcohol first, then maybe I would progress to diluted dish soap. Maybe professional upholstery cleaning.

The rug you could take to Ayoub in Kensington. They can probably deal with it.

Seriously though OP this is definitely not the nanny's problem.

OMG. Don’t you dare bring it up. You don’t purchase ivory fabric anything for a nursery rocker, dining chairs, etc. And just some advice, treat the people that take care of your children like gold. You will get it back tenfold.

Anonymous wrote:We’ve had our nanny for 2 months now. Came home tonight and walked into the baby’s room and noticed that our nearly brand new ivory rocker and the light colored rug are both stained blue. Guessing it’s from the nanny’s dark jeans that she was wearing today, but then again she wears jeans often so maybe I just hadn’t noticed before. Pretty sure both are ruined. It is extremely noticeable and really upsetting given that we just spent nearly $1,500 on these items just six months ago,

What do we do here... say something to the nanny on Monday? If so, what exactly? Not looking for her to pay for the damages but pretty annoyed and want to make sure she doesn’t ruin anything else.

Anyone who pays $1500.00 for a rug and chair for a child's room has more money than brains. You eat the cost for cleaning or replacement and this time buy from Walmart and make sure it is washable.
