You are ridiculous because you can't afford a nanny and it's sour grapes!

Plenty of people choose daycare over nannies for the reasons stated in this thread. If you have more than one child, which most people do, daycare is actually more expensive.

People choose daycare bc it’s less expensive. They chose in home bc it’s even more less expensive. Someone actually qualified watching your kids will always be more expensive than daycare. Not someone who speaks limited English, has no degree, cannot drive, etc.

+1. The concept of a college educated nanny with prior teaching experience is what’s unaffordable to most DCUM parents. They see only the foreign and often overworked nannies and assume the good engaged nannies are the child’s mother or grandmother.

Nope. But if a nanny is assumed to be a (white) child's mother or grandmother, she must be white herself. Get it?

Coded language for: white nannies are the best, brown ones are the worst.

I’m sorry, do you think only white people are educated?

I’ve had charges who were mixed race or “brown,” while I’m white. I’m still assumed to be mom, although a good portion ask when and where I adopted them... A friend (AA) adopted two children (neither look like her) and she’s assumed to be the nanny. We’ve remarked several times that it’s ridiculous that people make assumptions rather than asking.

It depends on the age of the child.

Also I would speak to the child’s parents concerning what you have seen.
This lousy Nanny should be let go.
Stat.

For any child three + under, a Nanny is still the optimal choice for childcare.
There are a majority of loving, competent Nannies who actually enjoy what they do.
I am one of them.
