| Lots of nervous, selfish, or just plain oblivious drivers in the left lane. |
| In Germany you only yield to a faster vehicle. A German saying is the Right of way is built in with the large Mercedes Star you see on SL models. I was once 30 years ago in left lane at 100 mph in a 55 cooking in my SL and a Lexus flashed me - a Lexus IS not entitle to pass me. A Ferrari, Masarrati sure, I punched it to 135 as he tried to paaa then back to 100. And put Acura back in his place behind me |

While I agree with op, there are so many reasons cars don’t get over. Mostly that traffic is heavy in every single lane. I have a French friend who is convinced that the left lane should be reserved for fast drivers 100% of the time. But that doesn’t work in practice. I spend a lot of time trying to get around awful/dangerous drivers in the right lane. And while doing so, I get tailgated by people in the left lane going 10+ miles over the speed limit.
Fix the slow pokes, people who don’t use turn signals, and dangerous drivers and the left lane will clear up. |
| i pay my road taxes when I fuel up my prius. i can use any lane I want. |
Breaking the law! Look at the attitude on the little guy driving the little car. Hope the big SUVs don’t accidentally run you over when you’re asleep in the left lane.

| I love these threads where certain Americans get so bent out of shape at the mention of some things being better in Europe. Perhaps if you took your head out of your a** occasionally, you'd learn something? Just a suggestion. |
I drive from DC to NJ every weekend in the summer and I totally concur. |
LOL indeed. cops have better things to do than jack me up for driving in the left lane. As long as I'm passing I'm safe... |

I have no problem flashing my brights behind some dimwit going below the speed limit (i.e., below the speed of normal traffic flow) in the left lane. I also have no problem honking at them and flipping them off as I pass on the right after they ignore my flashing them.
A-holes. |
Another boomer clown who was stationed in Germany and thinks he knows everything about the country. If you're camped out in the left lane of the autobahn you are slower traffic who should get out of the way. |
Just move over, slow poke. https://wtop.com/virginia/2018/04/how-many-left-lane-slowpokes-have-been-fined-under-new-va-law/ |

OP, I agree wholeheartedly. I am dumbfounded when people will stay in the left lane despite cars behind them wanting to go faster, no matter the speed. It is common courtesy to move over. This was taught and reinforced by driver's ed, my driving test (written and road), and my parents when teaching me. If I'm on a one-lane road going more slowly than the person would like to go behind me, even if my speed exceeds the speed limit, I will pull over so they can pass.
Driving in Europe, most recently Ireland earlier this year, was SO nice because people respected this basic requirement of driving. |
