And sometimes we do that. But since that lasts about a half hour, then it's nice to be able to drive to a playspace and let the kids let of steam for hours.

Amen! I grew up in Ireland and this is what we did as kids! Badlands is such a ripoff and so artificial. I can’t believe that people pay to go there when they could have the real thing instead. Sad reflection of our times, I guess.

You are making assumptions about people who go to badlands. We do lots of outside activities also. It’s not badlands exclusive. I don’t call enriching activities such as art and science artificial. But you do you.

Huh? Pricing high is not discriminatory. It's just the way this country works. I'm a (rich) person of color and I've never had issues at Badlands. If you want something cheap, go to a MoCo or DPR facility.

Ditto. Just like people using the race card, it’s now the poor card. Oh please.....Why don’t you go to Russia where everyone is poor except the leaders. This is a capitalistic country.

Why is it so expensive? Why price so high that only upper middle class can afford to go? What is the reason behind charging such high prices for a plastic mountain and some animals in a cage and some legos? Am I missing something... I might be.

How expensive can the rent be in the industrial neighborhood of Rockville? If it was in DC sure but why do they need to charge so much?

Well, you're welcome to tell us your cheaply priced alternative and everyone can go there instead. Until then, Badlands can charge the price the market will bear.

No but what makes it worth the price compared to other places? Scramble in VA is clean and my child could play there all day. What makes badlands worth the price?

People have already responded why they like Badlands upthread. Why don't you read some of the responses and explain why they're wrong and you're right.

But, at some point the novelty wears off and people will stop going especially given they keep raising the prices and lowering the quality.

I went to badlands once and I was wondering why I was paying so much to have my kid play on a few rocks and faux mountain......they have a much better time playing in the real outdoors..even when it's cold outside. I'm with the PP about Chuck E Cheese being a much better time for my family, myself included.

Maybe it's already been mentioned but Badlands has a 20% off promotion on CertifiKid right now.

Anecdotally, I think these places have to build in expensive liability insurance, which drives up prices some.

Because the owners are trying to make a profit. They need to pay rent/mortgage (for their own homes), food for their kids, retirement savings, etc. too, just like everyone else.

Why do you get paid so much? Why can't you lower your salary so a poor employer can hire you instead? What is the reason behind you wanting a salary high enough that your car isn't getting repossessed and your water shut off?

Because David Blair ran for county executive and spent a lot of the family’s money doing it?

Because instead we elected a pudgy dufous man that ‘listens’ and who wants to charge people for each piece of trash and recycling in our cans each week and who will spend 4 years channeling all county funds into Takoma Park & Silver Spring and in attracting lower income residents instead of jobs and new businesses and taxing the people unfortunate enough to still be living here? Because we’re idiots?
So David Blair should save up and fun again please?

Yes clearly you are missing something- common sense and logic.

For people who get sunburned in January, we Irish folks are sure hardy!

Plastic mountains are lame. Birthdays there are so chaotic. We go if there is a random day off and another parent invites us to meet there but it is not a spot we frequent. The cost is obnoxious and it’s not nature focused because it has a plastic mountains, some rocks and trees. It’s an indoor space with not tons to do. Add a zip line or something!

You do art at Badlands?

Seems like a waste. I’d rather take the kids out somewhere active in cold weather. Going out to finger paint or color (not to mention paying such a steep price!) sounds really underwhelming.
