In my family we try to respect each other's religious practices. It works for us. |
The Ukrainian Catholics, are absolutely part of the Catholic church, they practice a different rite, and have some different rules but they are 100% Catholic. |
You are saying the exact same thing that she just said.. |
It could be a more comfortable form of intimacy -- intend of relating directly to each other, you relate via your different religions, gaining respect for being deferent to each other's religion instead of for understanding people as individuals. |
There is no rule in the Catholic church about "approaching the rail". There is a rule about taking the sacrament, but everyone is welcome to approach and be blessed by the priest or extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion. |
LOL. They're not sorry. |
You can approach the rail if you're not in a state of grace and cross your arms over your chest, signifying that you are not worthy of the sacrament but would like a blessing from the priest. They are counting on people being honest about their moral state and being willing to tell the whole community -- at least those watching -- that they are not Catholics in good standing who do not want to sully the church with their sin, but do want some measure of participation in the ritual. It's very kind of the church to allow people like this to approach the rail -- it wasn't always like this. In the past, a person in this condition just had to sit in the pews while other approached the rail and took communion. Everyone knew they were sinful. Now it's not so obvious. |
There is much more to respect in the Catholic church than in some other churches that welcome all comers to communion. Catholics have many, many rules and many ways in which they can be offended. This does not prevent them from tolerating pedophilia. |
They don't really respect anyone or anything that they claim they do - children, marriage, other Christians, and on and on and on. |
Many individual Catholics are good people who like the tradition of the church. There are some good priests, too, but all are supporting an institution that has been corrupt for centuries. |
