Bent lady, I am with you. You only have to compare, the nutrition in the grain free posts to the ones with grains and you see what is wrong with the standard american diet. Processed grains and sugar...no one needs them.

I don't want flour, sugar or olive oil. I'll take butter, sweet potatoes, and onions. Also:

Salmon
Eggs
Spinach
Lamb
Parmesan cheese
Greek yogurt
Soy milk
Zucchini
Mushrooms
Shrimp

Bonus points because I already have spices....

But food is not just about necessity--just like sex. You don't have sex only to procreate, do you? Enjoy life a little--it tastes better.

I have already posted my list, but I just finished packing for a camping trip and realized that I had actually completed this experiment, although for a little less than a week. This list is a bit different than an at-home list only because the stuff has to be a bit more sturdy, but I couldn't help but post.

I have:
Yogurt
Eggs
Apples
Almond Butter
Grapes
Sweet Potatoes
Asparagus
Sausage
Pork Chops
Marshmallows

[I also have granola, chocolate bars, graham crackers, heirloom tomatoes, nuts, and milk, but I could easily leave these behind (if it were later in the season, I would keep the tomatoes, but I don't have great confidence in these). I have wine too, but I would trade anything on the list to make sure that the wine came if necessary, except maybe the marshmallows, as even the wine wouldn't hide the children's complaints if I skipped those].

Some days. But usually, it is fruit and yogurt, or a duck egg omelet, or cottage cheese and a banana, or a frittata, or paleo pancakes (banana, egg, scoop of almond butter), or bacon/egg muffins. And, sometimes, it is grains.

Usually some kind of omlette or egg cup/casserole. This week we had leftover chili so I mixed it with eggs and spinach and baked them as muffins...easy to grab in the morning. Bacon/sausage and eggs is always good, usually with some fruit or greens. Sometimes I make hash with sweet potatoes, onions, and top it with a poached egg or some leftover meat from dinner or both. If I'm super rushed it's a lara bar and coffee with heavy cream. Smoked salmon is delicious with scrambled eggs and chives. It took me a couple of weeks to rethink breakfast and now I can't see eating anything else. When I ate cereal for breakfast the thought of salad for lunch was revolting. Now I eat a nice filling breakfast and lunch is usually a lot of raw vegetables protein and some olives.

I don't eat wheat because I'm gluten intolerant and rice/corn based meals seem like a waste of calories....well, wheat based meals seem like a waste too to me now that I'm used to eating more variety in my diet. As for the person above who made the sex comment on my previous post...I enjoy food a lot more now that I'm not eating a bunch of bland grain based filler. I mean, bread, tortillas, and pasta are just vehicles for the really good stuff and often take the place of vegatables on many people's plates. You'd be surprised how exciting my diet is without grain.
