Penn State Scandal parallel to Beauvoir Pedophile

Anonymous
Beauvoir changed a number of policies having to do with teachers having contact with students outside of school. Toth lived with a Beauvoir family (at some point) and tutored Beauvoir kids. Neither of those things is allowed now. Also, all the teachers have had ongoing training on boundaries and recognizing inappropriate behavior, and what to do if they have concerns. Similar workshops are also offered to parents each year, though not that many take advantage of them. I don't know if they've changed anything about their screening, but unless a pedophile has a criminal record nothing is going to turn up. Toth didn't.

save your money PP!

seriously, yes they may have changed policies but they are still the same leadership. Penn State is at least moving to a new era.

I am confused by your post?

For example, have you seen the school address this issue head-on and talk about how it screens its teachers or teacher policies with regard to being alone with students? We are considering sending our child there for PRE-K.

I was a sub and my security clearance took 5 weeks to process fully. Very thorough. This type of thing has happened to other schools such as Sidwell. I think, like lightening, if there is anywhere that safe in DC it would be Beauvoir or Sidwell because of what they have been through. Beauvoir is a wonderful school. It was just recognized for its moral curriculum, the only school on the east coast out of 43 that applied to win such recognition for its " Beauvoir Life Rules " moral curriculum.

I guess you don't have a child at Beauvoir then or you would know exactly to what I am referring. You could drive your car over there and see.

I think the question was about screening new hires, not monitoring the cars as they enter the campus.

why the hell can't Toth be caught? It amazes me he is still out there, likely doing what he does best.

As I recall, he was suspended and reported to the police as soon as the school discovered his activities, fired as soon as the police charged him, and now he has been convicted in the Maryland court system.

That was only the most recent incident at Sidwell. There was a famous BB coach at Sidwell in the 80's who suddenly left the school after an " incident" with " his boys". That incident is probably why Sidwell deemphasized sports. Schools have to act quickly when they find monsters among those entrusted with the care of young children.

I thought Sidwell was an educational institution and not a gym or sports camp like the Y.

Sadly, organizations that care about their reputations (most do) are more likely to discreetly get their “problem employees” to move to other organizations rather that incur the risk of reporting and/or seeking prosecution of the accused employee. The net result is that predators move on to another job. Perhaps there should be something like whistleblower protect for organizations that turn in sexual predator –especially pedophiles.
