Thoughts on Dr Taylor’s school closure video

Parent. I found it self-indulgent. Good communication has a point and a goal, and MCPS got its point across just fine in writing. There was no point to the video. Was it fun? Sure. Was it necessary? No.

I'm admittedly biased because I can't stand him but I agree with others that it's really tone deaf in light of all the lives he's impacting with the current changes. I still can't get over telling people they're losing their position next year right before the winter holiday break. It was also just awfully cringeworthy.

+1 The text about the closure was sufficient. I'd rather see a video from Dr. Taylor explaining why MCPS has only 1 snow day built into the calendar despite several years in which we've had far more than 1 snow day.

How does he justify shortchanging our kids on their 180 days of required education?

I am a parent and I am pissed off that this fool has time to make funny music videos but he can’t find a way to stop SSIMS from becoming a holding school.

It's the same reason they closed the MVA, took away autism programs, cut back special education. They have money for what they want and there is no accountability for the money or mismanagement.

I work in a title I school. They sent each family home with some food home on Friday. Mac and cheese and applesauce and stuff. Not enough, but something!

Parent and teacher here. I think he could do a rap video on his phone at his house and I would prefer that—cute and relatable. But the fancy camera work and editing involved clearly cost some money that our county could use elsewhere.

If it is, it will be like last year with useless half days in June and Taylor sending out an email telling parents he understands if they choose not to send their kids because no real learning will occurs. They should use some of the gazillion professional days and get some extra actual full days in teaching.

They definitely use the MCPS TV department. They might even involve students from various studio programs and/or interns. But the staff, equipment and software is already in place. Why not use it? If you have the experience, the filming and editing doesn't take that much time and it's fun for the younger kids to watch.
