APS providing dinner

Is it more or less stigmatizing to sit in a cafeteria eating instead of getting food parcels?
Will ICE be watching the comings and goings and making a list?

Why not just wave fees or other expenses for families? How about including federal families?

If there are no questions asked and everyone is welcome, why pay from APS funds? Anyone and everyone will show up from DC to Maryland, just like they already do at our schools. No documentation needed! We will pay for it all here in Arlington!

The announcement specifically mentioned people impacted by the federal shutdown and told people to contact if they were having trouble paying extended day fees

Discovery School is growing food and helping feed those in need. APS is helping feed those in need. Core instruction in being a moral and decent human.

Being moral and decent and interested in efficient and flexible help for those families in need, I wonder how much the "spaghetti dinners" cost per person counting labor as well as ingredients. Might be better to give them the money. But of course that's not as performative and here in Arlington performative is everything.

A couple of dollars per head. What else you got in your bag except for more hate?

It’s APS using our schoolS (again) to make a political statement. That’s the problem for me.

Eff off. You see "hate" everywhere that isn't in perfect agreement with whatever you think. That's how we got in this mess.

So family of 4, $5 a head counting facility and labor costs too, that's $100 for 5 days. Would they prefer cash?

Get over yourself.

There is no political statement in the announcement. There is no blame to anyone. Are you blaming Youngkin for being political for help people on snap? Is the county political for emergency donations to AFAC?

APS has cafeterias, food service employees and efficient access to food distribution.

It’s an efficient temporary response to thousands of federal employees who have not received a paycheck for more than a month and nearly as many families who are only getting partial SNAP benefits.

Feeding hungry kids and families isn’t a political statement. It’s called the right thing to do. Everyone is a human. Somehow the Republican Party has forgotten that.

Your head would explode if APS did that. You just want to complain.

How will they verify people actually need this and will go hungry without it?

You know why. Because this is an easy performative action to keep people dependent.

It’s a temporary program limited to 250 meals a night at each high school. It will be ok. APS doesn’t need to quiz people on when they ate their last meal.

Feeding people for a few nights keeps them dependent while our dysfunctional government fights over when to pay people? Ok MAGA.
