Does anyone who really cares about appearance NOT use Botox?

+1. This is something white women with a certain type of skin that doesn’t age well do.

55, no Botox. My co-workers were all shocked when I told them I’ve never used Botox. There are so many downsides, I’d rather poke my eyes out. I’m always shocked women do this given the safety concerns.

Over time it can cause atrophy of the frontalis/ procerus/ corrugator muscles which can lead to weird shapes in the forehead.

Improper administration can lead to your eyebrows looking weird, droopy eyelids, and frozen forehead.

There is some evidence that loss of bone can occur as a result. This makes a lot of sense- the tension that muscles put on bone keeps it remodeling and strong. That’s why strength training is highly recommended for women as we get older.

By paralyzing your facial muscles, not only can the muscles atrophy and become misshapen over time, but you can lose bone density in your face/jaw, over time changing the shape and strength of the bones as well.

Thank goodness Black don’t crack.

No one thinks a 50 yr old black woman is 35. Whether it’s “cracking” or something else is not really interesting. Every race ages.

TEll me you dont know many black people without telling me. I know lots of Black women who look incredibly young for their ages, yes even 15 years younger. Melanin prevents the sun from aging your skin. It's like having built it sunscreen all your life.

Kind of off topic. Haven’t done cosmetic anything. What’s with the single, bulging forehead vein? Result of Botox? Once in a while I’ll binge a few episodes of DWTS and it’s wild because these women are so young.

Laser hair removal in my 20s when it first came out. Still hair free! Back then the laser tip was the size of a pencil eraser and the guy I used was the size of a lumberjack and he iced after every zap! Gentle giant. Took forever but I was committed.

I'm the opposite. I'm obsessive about skin and hair health and I get peels, lasers, botox etc and also highlights but I don't wear any extensions, fake nails and my makeup is barely there. I'm in a public speaking role and I only get enough to look rested but I can still move my face freely and show emotions. Why do you need yearly makeup lessons?

Thank God women in DC believe this ignorant nonsense so those of us with sense and education about skincare can shine.

That’s what it’s all about! Believing you’re comparatively younger looking than your same-age peer, which must make you prettier. Which must make you a catch, because men and women look at you and bite their fist with desire…or seethe.

This treatment is all for you right? No male gaze or competitiveness involved there!

44 no Botox. I wouldn’t ever do it. My face is my face.

Me. Botox makes people look like inhuman plastic dolls.

I think this is mostly genetic. Everyone has veins, but the thinner/lower body fat you are the more likely they are to show. It makes sense to me that you'd see them on dwts as they are quite fit.

I'm in my 50's, wealthy and buy a lot of fashion. My forehead is still smooth but I have 11's that I'd like to get rid of now. Have never tried botox but it seems too late to really bother.

I’m thin and fit and old by comparison but no vein bulges (no Botox). I remember in another thread that forehead Botox can cause a singular vein on left or right side. It’s big and bulging. Scroll down for multiple pics.

I’m trying to figure out my bulging forehead vein too. I only see it in pictures or when I’m working out with blood pumping. Hence why you’d see it when they’re dancing. Picture flash seems to capture it more than in real life. I’m so annoyed by it.

I get it occasionally but might stop. I can tell when I’ve had it done in pictures (and use “top” injectors around here). I can tell when others have it too even if they think it’s natural. Everyone starts to look like Nicole Kidman circa 2010s before she got a facelift.

Only my 11's. And it's very natural.

Me. I am honestly pretty vain. I'm 45 and I color my hair, get cuts every 2-3 months (I have a lob and I like it to look pretty precise and fresh), spend a lot of money on skin care, exercise daily, and eat really healthy. I also spend a lot on clothes and get most of my clothes tailored.

Part of it is that I don't have a ton of wrinkles and based on how my mom's face aged, I'm not really worried about things like "11s" or deep forehead creases. My mom got crows feet in her 40s and then started getting fine line wrinkles in her 50s and they slowly spread. She's in her late 70s now and her face is wrinkled but it's all fine lines, no deep wrinkles. I like how her face looks and if I age like that, I'm fine with it.

To me I'd rather make sure my skin is really well moisturized and that I've got healthy cell turn over, than to spend money on Botox or fillers. Maybe I'll change my tune in a few years, I don't know. I don't judge women who do that stuff, I just personally don't feel like I need it and I've seen it look bad on some people (not everyone, most of my friends who get Botox, I cannot tell at all though it may be helping them stay looking better I don't know). So I've just chosen to steer clear of it because I don't want to risk looking strange and I don't feel like it's going to fix some specific problem I have.

Not needing Botox is a good problem to have!
