The first time I visited the estate in VA where some of my ancestors were enslaved, the experience was an emotional rollercoaster. I’ve been back two more times and am better able to process the tour of the grounds and the work of the archaeologists and historians who have tried to document my ancestors’ experience. |
She met someone who moved to the US, but left her entire family behind for this at the expense of her family. It was a choice but her family is so lovely and I want to spend more time with them. Honestly it is her loss. |

After a long administrative nightmare, my parents finally won their asylum claim about 10 years ago.
It opened the door for them to visit extended family and friends back in El Salvador, and for me to finally meet all the people I’d only known through video calls and emails up to that point. It was wonderful for everyone to reconnect! |

| I think the impact of WWI gets a lot clearer when you go around the UK. My granddad was from a tiny Scottish town and they have a WWI memorial nearby and even out in the middle of nowhere there were a ton of names on it. It seems like a whole generation was decimated. |
