Wicked 2

It wasn't needed and was ick. There was absolutely no chemistry, in addition to being inappropriate for the target audience.

In Boston this movie is called Wicked Boring.

Yes! I was honestly shocked about it. It was so gross. The idea that a gorgeous man would choose that ugly green witch over beautiful Glinda is ludicrous and laughable.

And then when he turned his gun on Glinda? Worst character development ever!

Elphaba isn't ugly. And she has more character than Glinda--trying to save the animals and help people understand that something bad is happening in Oz.

Like who? Barbara Streisand? Whitney Houston (RIP). There are very few singers today better than Grande and Erivo.

There are many broadway singers who are far more talented than those two.

Ariana is an autotuned pop singer.

Oh hun, thats just not true. Have you heard her on the Mixtape Meledy with Kelly Clarkson?

Kelly is the GOAT, of course but Ari sounded great here. I'm not really a fan of hers but I'm not sure how you watch a live performance of hers, and listen to Wicked and think thats autotune. Radio songs are completely different.

I agree. Ariana has a great voice.

She may have more character but she is not attractive at all. Elphaba and Fiyero had no chemistry.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I'm surprised. Jonathan Bailey excels at having chemistry with everyone.

Fiyero and Glinda didn't have chemistry either. Maybe you're seeing what you want to see due to your own biases.

I saw it today. Not as good at the first one, but it was still good. I found Ariana Grande’s extreme thinness very distracting, though. You could see so many chest bones, especially when she was singing - was really uncomfortable watching her.

I agree with this - it was scary seeing her chest bones. Not a good role model for tweens at all. At least Cynthia was covered up in large black dresses so you couldn’t see her skeletal frame as much.

I agree with this too. But in the real world, a handsome man like Fiyero wouldn’t have chosen the green wicked witch. Sorry.

Anonymous wrote:I really liked the musical when I saw it a few years ago. I didn't see the first movie when it came out, but I watched it with my kid on Friday because she went to see the second one yesterday and had wanted to wait and watch them close together.

I loved the sets/costumes, liked some of the musical numbers (what is this feeling? popular, and defying gravity of course) and was kind of bored with the rest, found myself multitasking for most of the movie. Based on that, I won't bother seeing the new one (maybe when it's streaming.)

Just saw it on Broadway for first time this summer. I like Stephen Schwartz's work a lot - but this one not at all.

It was a visual spectacle, and has some famous tunes, but the plot was incoherent and unsatisfying. I may read the book someday to see if that improves my opinion.

I really loved the book and find the musical to be an unacceptable shadow of the book. The book is very much about Elphaba's internal experience and evolution, and while a couple of the songs do a good job with those themes, the rest of the musical feels too broad and focused on style over substance. I never even bothered with the first movie and likely won't watch the second either, but the book is very much worth reading.

Thanks for the rec! I saw the first Harry Potter movie without reading the book and found it the same way as the Wicked musical (a lot of expensive effects but unclear plot). After I read the book, I realized the movie was mainly fanservice.

That is not wicked. The plot of the book is nothing like the musical. Radical departure on so many levels.

You should have seen wizard of oz to have any clue though.
